mas high octane na gas ba ay always better? is there such a thing as overdose of octane sa engines?

    your coments please

    NO.

people assume this since race cars usually use high-octane gasoline.

only engines (usually new ones) that have a high-compression need high-octane gasoline (e.g. cr-v, rav4). though if you use a low-octane gasoline on these cars, the result will be poor fuel consumption & a drop in power (since the knock sensor will adjust your timing to compensate for it).

just stick to the recommended octane by the car manufacturer.

Just follow the recommended octane rating of the manufacturer for your vehicle. Dont go below this number to avoid engine knock. Going higher than this number is usually a waste of money.

Aside from what the guys mentioned, if you're running advance timing, it'll be also better to use higher octane fuel.

It varies from car to car as well... For some reason I noticed and got better fuel consumption on our Sentra when i used 95 octane Petron XCS over regular 93 (roughly 1-2km/L difference, and the gauge drop is less over the same route i take with the same driving habits). But with our Corolla 1300 before, there was no difference with low and high octane fuel consumption except that nawala yung tope pag tag-init.

basic thing to do is to test....
start with the lowest plain unleaded fuel. pag may naririnig kang engine knocks, try the next higher available fuel with a higher octane rating...

but if you can survive and your car runs on the lowest octane fuel available, dun ka na lang for practicality purposes. this is to assume that you are doing regular city drivings.

Tama cla i guess. Isa rin ako sa naniwala na ok gumamit ng high octane gasoline on a bone stock motor. Anyway, i've read na most public available cars are engineered to run in low octane fuels. Pero unless ur tuning ur car and advanced ur timing from the factory set figure d mo kelangan ng high octane. An aggressive timing needs high octane fuel to prevent engine knock. They usually do this to gain hp i think and better fuel mileage.

Teka tanong ko na rin... pano ba malaman kung nagnoknock un engine by using ur ears only??? Anyone?

i always fill up with 95 octane fuel like XCS. middle ground nalang para safe. n dahil na rin some stupid gas stations cheat on their octane rating, baka ung 93 ng unleaded e 91 lng, mahirap na. saw it on tv.

car is 04 rav4. fellow rav4 owners, ano gamit niyong gas?

baseline yung na sa manual (down to 89 RON yata puwede). Then variables sa suppliers and stations in terms of additives so di lang sa octane kundi sa detergents etc...for modern cars kasi, the ECU adjusts its parameters so sabi ng iba, better to stick to one para once optimized, wala nang re-tuning ng parameters. Then there's the condition of the cars.

Bottomline, what works diba? Kung saan hiyang yung makina vis-a-vis your driving style.

Tama, follow the recommended octane by the manufacturer.

Although has 9.6:1 lang ang ratio nitong Nissan 240SX 1993 DOHC 16V ko, nakalagay sa may odometer "Unleaded Fuel Only." Pero pag tinignan mo sa owners manual and gas gap: Premium Octane (91 Octane in California) is highly recommended for maximum performance. Nagkarga ako ng 87 one time, it takes a while to accelerate. I figured, if it takes me a while to accelerate, I will end up consuming more gas.

d best bet is to stick > manufacturers recommended octane rating..
pero kung seldom or stored ang paggamit ng tsikot, shift to highest octane kasi a long period of time degrade octane level w/ resulting to harmful preigntion/ knocking..>>hehe
