October 25th, 2007 04:54 PM #1Gurus - Need your help. Im encountering intermittent blinking of "Engine Malfunction" indicator dash indicator (instrument panel) of my Civic VTI 2000 (SIR Boy). This is the colored orange indicator on my dash with icon that looks like a conduit pipe. The manual says that this sensor sense the emission level of the engine. The light goes off when i stop the car and it will light up again after i drive for some more kilometers. Can you please help on how can i fix this? Is this a major problem?

bring it to a shop that has an engine scanner; speedlab, speedyfix, etc. anyway that kind of intermittent problem is a sign of a loose/busted knock sensor.

pa scan mo na yan asap, pag ang MIL (malfunction indicator lamp or check engine) ay nag biblink that means meron active misfire that need immediate repair otherwise you're going to kill the cat con sooner. blinking is different than steady illumination of the MIL. steady means there was a problem detected by the ECU (or other computers) that needs attention but not as critical as the blinking MIL. and pls dont ever disconnect the negative battery to reset since ma eerase ang fault sa ECU and hindi mo agad maretreive kahit gamitan mo pa ng scanner. if the problem goes away the computer will extinguish the mil automatically after 2 good trips if it doesnt see the problem again. the fault will be erased in the comp memory after several drive cycles (most are within 40 warm-up cycles).

So baka minor lang yan kaya check mo muna...

November 1st, 2007 10:02 AM #7Hi EG - Thanks for the input - Yes, not sure kong coincidental nga yun. The 1st time i encountered the intermittent blinking of check engine (malfunction sensor) indicator nagloko na rin yun speedometer ko, now the speedometer is completely dead. Will check shop with scanner capability.
