Before the looks try to check first the engine, electricals and drivetrain. Check the following:
1) Belt condition and tightness
2) Fluids
3) Fuses
4) Lights and bulbs
5) Brake lining, pads and shoes
6) repacking and greasing
7) clamps and hoses
