Anti-lock Braking System ata yan. So that you can still control the car after a hard brake AFAIK

Keeps the brakes from locking under hard braking or slippery conditions. AFAIK, the '98 Lancer GLXi doesnt have that.

If your car is eqiupped with ABS, you can still steer your car even if you make a sudden hard brake.

Not familiar with lancers, but what you can do is follow the steel lines from the brake master. If it goes down right away- wala. If it goes to a sort of a box on either side of the engine cockpit and divides into 4 steel tubes chances are ABS yon.
