arcing ang tawag dun sa nag bu-burn ng contacts, matbe you need to replace the condenser na (The condenser provides a place where current can flow until the points are fully open) also too wide the gap ay nagca-cause din ng arcing.

try mo rin baka ang imported versions ng engine niyan have an electronic contact point... (you might need to replace the whole distributor assembly)

yung starlet ko (which is older than the box type lancer) is already electronic contact point.

agree with the condenser probability...normally when you replace the contact point you also replace the condenser.

then if you are the one timing your lancer, try to use a filler gauge for the proper gap on full open of the contact point.

i agree, replace your condenser. you might want to check your spark plugs too.

ganyan din nangyayari sa oto ko dati.
possible na may problema ang electrical mo
check mo yun resistor (puting pahaba) kung ayus pa
replace condenser narin at spark plugs

i think pag ganyan, kakajot-kajot ang takbo mo, tama ba?

oo kakadyot kadyot nga. kaya kakainis. san ko matatagpuan yung resistor na puti. para ma chk ko. Anyways, pinakelaman ko. did all what u advised. ako nag install ng contact point. Clean everthing replace the condenser. ad just the distributor for good hatak. and i guess nagawa ko ng maayos. its my first day to use it. wala naman akong naramdaman na problema. and it runs well, ganda hatak. but im still observing it. Sana tumagal and ginawa ko. kaya pala ako ang gumawa kakasawa bumalik sa mekaniko. iba talaga pag ikaw ang nagtyaga at gumawa.

you might want to try CDI on your car ... you'd still use the contact point for triggering but it will last forever beacause it won't be carrying high currents anymore ... and the condenser won't be needed

i did it on my Colt Mirage long ago and the first thing i noticed was quick starting ... on conventional ignition like yours, the spark voltage is typically 20,000 volts, the CDI can deliver up to 40,000 volts

a CDI unit can be built diy if you can't find commercially available units

mahihirapan ka nga maghanap ng ready-to-use CDI

so your best bet is a kit from Alexan (in megamall or sm north or raon) ... ask for their Electronic Ignition Sytem kit ... they might have it in assembled form although it normally comes in a kit which can be assembled by a DIYer

I remember this CDI about 20 yrs. ago! hehehe
I assembled one for my old Ford cortina and what do you know? It worked! You should buy the old Electronics Enthusiast magazine with the article about it when you buy the kit. I don't know if the article is included in the kit so you should make sure. The wiring to your engine electricals is simple enough. The problem is if you have the skills in assembling/soldering the electronic components on the circuit board.

Also make sure that the case will be waterproof and place it on the engine compartment where water will not reach it. (Rain or floodwater!) Good luck!

Nakagawa na ako nun..actually, nilagyan ko pa nga ng switch, from electronic ignition to conventional ignition (para in-case na magka-trouble sa electronics, you'll still be rolling kasi naka-conventional ka), and also, nilagyan ko din ng staller (means that, mag-crank lang sya, walang kuryente sa ignition system). nakapag-kabit na ako sa mga corolla at lancer box type, ganun din sa mga owner type jeeps, at yung mini austin...basta lahat ng makina na gumagamit pa ng contact point.

    wildthing,
sori, wala akong mapo-provide na pictures. alam mo ba yung kit na galing alexan (nai-post ni kinyo)? minodify ko lang yung circuits nya. dun sa diagram kit, walang switch para sa conventional, electronic at staller. Yung conventional pala means you gonna still use the contact point, as in yung original ignition system ng kotse, yung electronic ay yung electronic device, at yung staller naman ay naka "neutral"..walang kuryente. ginamitan ko ng 3-way toggle switch.

How can you say the your contact point "won't last long?".... If it's non- functional (as in it won't last long),- then you can't start your engine as it channels the spark to your spark plugs at the precise moment of the engine cycle....You can also adjust this by revolving your distributor. However, I suggest that you use a timing light to check or validate.

Normally, you just clean it(contact point) by running a fine sandpaper in between the contacts. And then, wiping it clean by cloth.

Are you using the right value for your condenser?

Is the resistor still in series with your coil? Or, was it bypassed?
