The 3-4 months development time mentioned brings us to August this year, so maybe the LHD isn't ready for export until Q3 2012. The next question will be whether it will be brought in CBU or CKD...

If CBU, then Nano is subject to 30% import duty. The base model is about US$2,500, on top of which logistics costs, import duty, excise tax, administrative costs, and local taxes are added. A resulting SRP of near PHP200k is possible...

If CKD, then 0% import duty but there will be assembly costs that need to be recovered. Jigs, tooling, EDP paint process, labor costs, overhead, etc. will be distributed over the total volume. It could easily cost more than the import duty if volume is low, making CKD unfeasible.

I'm very curious about how the importer will go about the Tata Nano.

    Cheers!
Given my experience with Chinese cars, $2.5k equals about 250k pesos through a third party retailer.

Trendy to give Indians an opportunity to personalize their Nano have designer Dilip Chhabria of DC Design and Carnation Auto joined beaten to a modest tuning package development.

Three wheelers: $2.3k. Landed, distributor price, Php200k. Dealer price, Php230k. That one failed to take off. Not enough market, not enough volume to get the manufacturer price down

Chery QQ. That started at $4.5k or so in China, and the base model was Php350k here. That's still about Php150k in mark-up.

Thus, expect the Nano to be between 250-300k. If they SKD here, then 200k and under is possible.

    Here's an unscientific comparison:
    India : Suzuki Alto K10 - 3.25 lakh Rupee (or INR 325k)
    PHL : Suzuki Alto K10 - PHP 439k
    Factor increase of 35%

So applying above factor increase to Tata Nano:
India : Tata Nano w/ AC & Power Steering - 2.14 lakh Rupee (or INR 214k)
    PHL : Tata Nano w/ AC & Power Steering - PHP 289k

    Yup, Sir Niky you're right.

    Cheers

Looks like the Nano LHD is finally ready for export, it's 1st market is Myanmar. See at link below:

Tata Nano to be launched in Myanmar this week

But that price mentioned in the article is ridiculous -- equivalent INR 5.94 lakh or close to P600k!?! The taxes must be exorbitant in Myanmar, just as the article says...it's more fun in PHL

Not a whisper anywhere about the diesel...tsk tsk. Must've hit some technical hurdle...

tata was launched here nung mga late 90's to very early 2000's. they were selling pickups similar to nissan ad resort. yung showroom nila is in between guadalupe tulay and boni. they folded up eventually and i don't see existing tata's dito. does anyone of you recall?

Yup I believe it was the Rodriguezes who brought them in, about the same time as Proton and Alfa Romeo. Just like those 2 brands, Tata did not prosper in PHL...

It actually is gonna have only 2 cylinders. But still not a bad engine at all, altough I wouldn't ever consider to get a Tata Nano. I wouldn't mind to have this engine as a replacement for a 1.0L petrol engine...

my indian colleague here once told that TATA owner made a big business blunder
he put up a big tata plant for domestic market.
yup the car is cheap... but fuel cost in india is high.
target market is not complaining on the car but their daily fuel budget

Ung mga gumagawa ng owner jeep sa cavite wala bang nagbabalak na gumawa ng similar car tulad ng tata?

Pwede gamitan ng motorcycle engines, tapos two passengers lang para hindi hirap.
