May 31st, 2012 12:39 PM #11I always thought that EV's are the safest cars; now I realized that bicycles are. EV's use lithium batteries;e.g. 200-300V with tremendous current. An electronic fuse could disable the batterties, however the physical destruction of the batteries constitute a serious threat to the vehicle. What is needed is a means to protect it, like the hybrid buses in Europe.
Buses running on EDSA had been known to burst into flames, so diesel engines are not that safe, either. This maybe due to negligence on maintenance procedures. A regular maintenance schedule will reduce these unwanted accidents. Ergo, since there are no safe vehicles, there's no substitute to responsible driving and proper maintenance.
