Tesla Model Y was the best-selling car worldwide in the first quarter
Tesla model Y just beat the Toyota Corolla in overall sales in the first Q1 2023.A new report from data firm JATO Dynamics, along with automotive site Motor.1.com, found the Tesla Model Y was the No. 1 selling vehicle globally in the first quarter of the year, marking the first time an EV was the top-selling vehicle.
JATO said Tesla sold 267,200 Model Ys in Q1, up 69% from a year ago. The second-best-selling car was Toyota’s Corolla, with 256,400 vehicles sold globally. JATO’s data spanned 53 international markets, plus data and forecasts for 31 other markets and estimates for the balance of global markets.
For Tesla, it could be the beginning of a new sales trend for the Model Y, which might see it being the global leader in sales for 2023.
hopefully a wake up call for Toyota to start putting more of their expertise on EV cars.
Toyota is in business for the long run. They have their own game plan for the future of transportation, which is hydrogen.
Hydrogen is a better solution for clean/green motoring than battery electric vehicles. It solves many of the problems/issues with battery EVs including charging, toxic materials and limited range.
I saw one or two videos of people driving their EVs in deep flood with enthusiasm. While they don't have the stalling problems normally associated with ICE vehicles, they do present an entirely different and potentially life-threatening failure scenario; Lithium batteries will combust when exposed to water.
While manufacturers seems to have made reasonable efforts to protect the batteries from day-to-day use, including inclement weather, it's not designed to be submerged.
That's how you know those fire blankets are complete bullshit.
You can't smother an EV fire and the usual fire triangle wisdom of heat, fuel, oxygen doesn't apply because all three are contained inside the battery pack.

Looks like Tesla's Officially gonna enter our market.
Will wait until i see Tesla Superchargers being placed in strategic location in the metro.
reminds me of an old joke.
a salesman decided to go down south.
"so what can't you sell up north?", an old timer asked.
i dump nila dito yung mga hindi nabebenta sa US.
Dami na kasing inventory.
Probably expanding exports to prevent the oversupply that is plaguing their US plant. To a lesser extent it may already be happening with their Chinese market given the production cuts at the Shanghai plant with their Model Y and aggressive discounts to it and the Model 3.
The Model Y is due for a refresh with the Juniper concept.
its unknown when it will be released either this year or early next year.
my guess is that we will still be getting the current model Y when tesla starts selling their units here.
What I heard from the grapevine was that there was an oversupply of roughly 10,000 to 15,000 units in Shanghai (Gigafactory 3) from Q3 of this year. The deficit is smaller than last year's but still is concerning as they already offer 0% financing in China and reduced production. The deficit in deliveries is supposedly larger in the EU while the US is expected to be better, sales-wise, in Q4 as it's the holiday shopping season and there are discounts forthcoming.
I'm guessing our inventory will indeed come from Shanghai.
