i have the new GU patrol. 3.0 turbo diesel intercooled, manual tranny, 4x2.
    fuel consumption : 7.5km/li combined city/highway

    what i like...
    - best in exterior appearance among the jap brands.
    - in my experience, hindi takaw huli sa mmda/tmg/police, especially C ang 1st letter ng plate num ko.
    - can seat 4 adults in the middle row with ease.

    what i don't like...
    - not so good acceleration, but when cruising, drives like a sedan.
    - bare interior.
    - lack of storage compartments.
    - doesn't have the following:
    * no height adjuster for front seatbelts
    * no headlight left-on warning buzzer
    * no ignition key warning buzzer
    * no door courtesy lamps
    - the HU

    dagdag ko pa...

according to the aussies at www.overlander.com.au, some ZD30s fail prematurely daw... seized pistons at less than 50,000 km (engine replaced under warranty). 5th gear for the M/T is prone to stripping daw because the splines of that gear are thin (especially when towing something on the highway in 5th gear). there is some throttle surge daw in low-range low gear with the ZD30, potentially dangerous in off-roading, but it gets better with age daw

yun lang ata yung major issues na reported with the 3.0TD patrol...

but the ZD30 patrol owners in that forum are very satisfied with their rides

nakupo, dito kaya sa atin papalitan kaya nila yung buong engine? baka yung piston lang ang palitan under warranty?

    tnx for the replies!

i got to test drive a second hand 4.5l patrol imptd..moonroof..may compass/temp cluster sa gitna sa may rear view...cool box all leather..matic...

i noticed something about the steering medyo mabigat pero kapag nagturn ka parang maluwag...hindi magaan..maluwag..hmm ganon ba talaga to..one more the suspension is medyo matigas but solid..kinda reminds me of a hilander...pero solid...ano kaya fuel consumption ng gas ver?..and another thing with regards to the accelaration parang lariat ko dati hindi siya pang racing..hehehe although torquey

honestly intitial reaction ko..umm there can be something better pero thinking about it for awhile...i kinda like it..

mas mabigat nga steering ng patrol kesa sa ibang mga na drive ko na sasakyan. dahil ba ito sa size ng tires and weight of the patrol?

probably something to do with the power steering system kasi ang f150 lariat at navigator di naman ganyan..

    sarap ding i-drive..!!8)

Using 5th gear is usually NOT recommended for towing, regardless of the vehicle make or type. Partly because of the gear spline damage issue and inability of the vehicle to engine brake effectively.

Since the Land Cruisers have recently turned to IFS, many 4 wheelers have turned to the Patrol because of its old but more reliable rigid axle system.

    Hero,

nakupow the TB45 gas patrol will probably have worse consumption than an expedition... notorious ang gas patrols for burning through gas in australia. siguro nasa 2.7-4 km/L city lang yan...

    kiper18,

not necessarily... it's a long-stroke inline-6, inline arrangement for block strength and long-stroke and large displacement for great torque. it's really a truck engine from the ground up. the largest gas engine for the GU patrol is the 4.8L version of the now superseded 4.5L inline-6

    Freeman,

thanks for the info... that's the feedback from the aussie peeps, and apparently, from the message board, the "5th-gear issue" is the most major issue concerning the GU patrol. i think they said Nissan had offered a redesigned 5th-gear cluster for warranty claimants

    boybi,

i have no idea... since 2002 lang sumikat yung patrol dito sa atin, maybe it was already built with the beefed-up 5th gear? early 1997 pa kasi inintroduce yung GU patrol sa australia, though the aussies say that even the late models have problems i think

siguro hindi naman magiging problema dito yan kasi we don't tow anything here, and we don't use 5th gear much relative to the aussies hehehe

try visiting www.overlander.com.au, go to the forum, and search for "Patrol" so you can read up on their comments yourself

gusto ata ng nissan parang truck =)

pati yung 4800 gu patrol v6 din. performance wise ni-review ng overlander yung patrol, talo siya sa LC100 saka sa new Range Rover. yung new Range Rover very nice daw off-road, better than many other SUVs na live-axle kahit all independent sya.
