August 22nd, 2012 03:51 PM #13Nissan banners the all-new Almera at the 4th PIMS
Words by Jose Carlo R. Sapera | Photos by Christopher Kho
Does name “Almera” ring a bell? Well, it’s a label that most of us in the Philippines haven't heard of, but it's about time that we get to know Nissan's latest sub-compact because Nissan Motor Philippines Inc. (NMPI) has plans of manufacturing and selling it here locally.
The Almera nameplate was first used back in 1995 and was sold as the European version of the Sentra. It was marketed alongside the Nissan Tiida and Versa in other parts of the world, both of which were considered to be replacements for the Nissan Sunny. Now here's the confusing part. Sunny was used as the export name of the Nissan Sentra, which means that the Almera, Tiida, Versa, Sentra, and Sunny shared platforms with each other at least once in their lifetime in different continents. Adding to the mix are the names Sylphy and Pulsar that were also used for variations of the Sentra in the past.
