i had the same car as yours for 13 years. it suffered the complex problem of hidden leak and overheat. and i didn't know what was causing what.
i had the water pump replaced, because it was leaking. i had a difficult time looking for the leak, because of the tight squeeze. but the mechanic spotted it easily. apparently, it was a common problem as the car aged.
napaka-sikip ng espasyo.. i think i did the right thing by hiring out the mechanic to do it for me.
keep that thermostat in there! it helps the car minimize pollution, and helps save a little fuel. it also helps the engine run smoothly.
a little-known fact.. that aux fan of ours is a great deceiver! akala natin, porke umi-ikit nang mabilis, ay ok pa siya.
pues, i had the exact same complaint as yours.. boiling reservoir.. i did everything.. to no avail.
then one day, an old timer said, "palitan mo yang aux fan mo."
"bakit naman.. mabilis pa umikit.. malakas pa hangin..."
"bossing.. lika.. pakita ko kung gano ka-hina yan.."
he then showed me just how strong the wind flew with a new motor, compared to what i thought was strong enough using my old motor.
well, i replaced both aux fans. no more overheat since!
you might try replacing one fan only.. but i guarantee you, from experience... the other fan will follow, within a few months.
also, the aircon improved to brand-new cooling ability! humihingi uli ng sweater ulit si wifey.
btw.. our aux fan motors are throw-away. un-fix-able. but the plastic fan blades are re-useable. at tingnan mo din yung korte nila. iba ang kanan sa kaliwa. wag mong ipag-palit ang kanan sa kaliwa.
