I'm seriously considering buying a quad bike for use around my home in Palawan but I have no idea what models are available here.
For example the common Japanese models are obviously superb quality but it comes at a price.
What alternative choices do I have? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you all.

Thanks for the reply. This would normally be my choice (particuarly the Honda as you can see by my pic) but i'll obviously have to see what is available at my local dealers.
Does anybody out ther have other makes, and if so what is your opinion of them?

In my opinion, Quad bikes are great until your first turn-over/spill. I gave my brother a Honda Quad that I got from a surplus shop some years back and found out the hard way their weakness: it easily tips over , more particularly if you get too confident taking a turn.

Broken ankle, right arm and all we sold it quick .

Pls. consider a trail bike too. I think this will do better. Unless you intend to always carry around with you some supplies and stuff.

    Just my two cents experience.

i have been using an atv/quad in our farm for almost 3 years now, it's indispensable! it's quite dangerous over paved roads so it's strictly for off-road use only. although it's just china-made it's quite durable. another option would be off-road karts, you can look them up on the web, you sit lower and it has a roll cage around you and sits two. they're available here in manila, i saw a store selling them along araneta avenue, qc.

How much ba yung mga quad-bikes na Japanese brands like Honda or Yamaha? Yung mga gawang China, magkano rin? Interested akong bumili noon pa. For "subdivision" use lang sana, strictly no offroading.

quad bikes are definitely not for use on cemented and asphalted roads, sobrang mabuhay ang steering (konting twitch lang, kabig kaagad). safe lang sila sa sand, gravel or soil. and since naka lock yung rear axles, masisira kaagad kapag nasa paved roads.

Quad bikes can be used anywhere except national roads. For tarmac and cement use hoosier street tires, for off road knobbies, sand paddle tires. I've had my Honda 400EX since 1999 when it first came out and never encountered any problems with it.

Yamaha and Honda are in the $5000 + price range but have big displacement no shipping and taxes yet. China nasa 100k+ but 250 cc.ata pinakamataas na displacement.

There are China made quad bikes. From Sinski or Grandstar(?), I think.

Thanks for the info guys and gals.

I like the sound of the off road karts (if they are truely 'off-road'). I will definitely look into that possibility.

why not a VW dune buggy fozzie? volkwagen engine (lots of possible parts) and can (almost) be done/repaired by (almost) any sidestreet mechanic. Body is fiberglass resin...so its easy to repair.

Thank you all for your valuable input.
I'm warming to the idea of a VW dune buggy or off-road cart. I looked at a new Taiwanese 150cc and 250cc ATV in my Puerto Princesa home last week but have to agree that their all round value would be significantly less than either a dune buggy or off-road cart.
BUT....I've been scanning the internet to find suppliers here in Philippines. I do not mind buying a kit of parts and assembling myself, in fact I am more likely to get the desired quality this way, but a ready made new or GOOD used option will be seriously considered.
does anybody have any links to what I am looking for eiter on the mainland or Palawan?
    Thank you all in advance.
