Marikina City Representative Marcelino Teodoro and ARC Party List Representative Narciso Santiago filed the House Bill 3080 banning motorcycles along major thoroughfares of Metro Manila. The proposed bill is a set of guidelines to stop the rising number of motorcycle accidents due to speeding, not wearing helmets and drunk driving. (Source: Trapik.com)

I am a daily witness of undisciplined motorcyclists, especially the delivery motorcycles, who race, weave, squeeze between vehicles, and cut lanes. The number of motorcycles plying the metropolis has already increased and so are the undisciplined drivers. Consequently, the number motorcycle related accidents has risen too. Some lawless elements use motorcycles in their trades.

I am for the approval of the bill.

    i dont agree.

i enforce na muna nila ang proper safety guidelines like "wearing the correct helmet" bago sila sumabak sa ganito.. bagong pagkakakitaan na naman yan IMHO. Hoo hoo hoo. happy new year!!

wag naman. may mga matitino pa namang MC riders, no matter how few. Main difference is, they usually live to tell the tale.

what we need is to straighten out the reckless. it's for their own good anyway - motorcycle riders die daily, and usually they usually go out in gruesome ways.

The danger is there kahit disciplined MC driver pa yun...Sa mga major road nga lng mas mataas ang risk...Banning is not the answer...

How I wish that the police or MMDA have a fleet of underbone motorcycles to catch erring drivers, motorcycles or hinde. Ala CHIPS.

    how about that???

they shoudnt ban MC's on major roads.. they should put motorcycle lanes pra mas iwas disgrasya...

^^i think it springs from the basic rule on traffic that says: GO ONLY WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO...

so when going endangers the life and limbs of the pedestrians and other motorists, and the going driver happen not to foresee the danger, the fault now is ascribable to the vehicle that kills or injures other people. so this is where liability lie.

in the same way that the last clear chance doctrine, imposes liability against the one, who, during the impact was at the right lane. because under the last clear chance doctrine, the one who has the last clear chance to avoid the fatal accident should have done his part to prevent the same from happening.

dura lex sed lex: the law may be harsh but it is the law.
I still think na mahirap siguro ito i-panalo sa court lalo na if the one riding the motorcycle was actually breaking the law at the time of the accident.

For example, most of these guys still go even though its a red light. If that person gets rammed by a car passing through then would that doctrine still apply?

The person in the motorcycle was breaking the law (stop on red) in the first place and the the one in the car was only following the rules (go on green).

Also -- I seem to recall a thread in which a pedestrian being hit by a car, if that pedestrian is breaking some law at the time of accident (walking under an overpass), then the owner of the car is not liable.. asan ba yun.. MMDA thread yun eh..

i am 100% sure di ma approve to.

By the time the "Bill" passed sa lower house, that's it.Have you noticed the increasing volume of motorcycles in the provinces?masakit sa tenga at mata
vietnam, etc. criss-crossing each others path, walang rehistro din...

yes... there might also be the same type of 4 wheeled drivers but the main difference is if these 4 wheeled idiots get into an accident, they don't have a high percentage of getting killed or certain body parts scattered on the road as compared to MC riders.

As it is, MC and 4 wheelers are not compatible on the same highway. Until certain level of discipline can be met, I am also for the idea of banning MCs from certain roads.

Sana isama nila mga Tricycles sa pag-ban. Mas walang disiplina mga Trike drivers kesa mga MC riders.

I vote for the banning of 80% of all Filipinos drivers on all major roads to make it safer for foreigners who drive/ride to work everyday from people who don't follow traffic rules. Will it happen NO! Wishful thinking on my part.

From what I read on the other site, the accident rate of bikes to cars/trucks is separated by only 4% so they say, so maybe they should ban cars too.

If everyone in this forum drove trucks and the poor majority of people use small sedans and drive recklessly, then you guys would be screaming ban small sedans. Why ban the vehicle when simple enforcement of road rules would improve the situation? Ah yes, because this is a land of corruption and "tamad" society so people think of stupid/rushed solutions to problems. I see it with people I work with. Its an inconvenience but I have to endure it cuz I'm stuck here for a few years.

sigh... i guess we can never expect much from non-motorcyclist government officials and other forumers here... It's really very easy to disregard opinions/needs of the "others" whom you do not know much of. It's so easy to "think" that restricting the rights of others will be for the benefit of the majority, or maybe themselves.

Motorcycles are already opressed as it is in the metro streets.. A lot of riders brave the risks and difficulties because either they "love" riding or its their only means of transport. Banning these vehicles along the major thoroughfares is a clear restriction of their rights! Riders pay licenses, registration and other taxes same as car drivers! which gives them equal rights to use the PUBLIC roads.. a fact that author of that certain bill have'nt thought about...

I hope this does'nt become another MC bashing thread again, Fact is the road is for PUBLIC use.. and by public, it includes motorcycle riders.

    Ito na lang hulihin nila

    Motorcycles without the ff:
    side mirrors
    plate numbers
    helmets
    headlights and tail lights

    If they
have mirrors they are as small as the formula one race cars have
Have plate numbers its either tilted or on the left side or on the right side which can scratch someone else car or a feet of a pedrestrian.
    helmets they just holding it

They weave it and out while there is traffic they dive either in your right side or at your left side.
    Texting while riding.
