I have a high school classmate who i knew bought a Montero a few years back. During our reunion more than a year ago, i asked him why he bought a new Fortuner since i knew he already had a Montero. He told me that he sold the Montero and bought the Fortuner because he got involved in an accident with the Montero. According to him, he put the transmission in Park while he waited for the light to turn green. He shifted to Drive while stepping on the brake when the light turned green. The Montero suddenly accelerated overpowering the brake and unfortunately hit a pedestrian who was a few feet in front of his car. Luckily, there were no injuries to the pedestrian but his montero had light scratches on the hood near the front bumper. He sold the Montero and bought the Fortuner. He had no clue about other drivers of Monteros experiencing sudden unintended acceleration until i told him about this thread. Nagulat siya na hindi pala unique experience niya.
I personally have no brand loyalty but i had 1 nissan (datsun), 2 hondas ( civic, CR-V), 1 Acura MDX ( when i was still living in New York) in the past. I currently drive a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2012 Mitsu Pajero BK. I have no issues with my Mitsu Pajero. I personally recommended my younger sister not to buy a Montero last year because of this thread and my classmate's experience. My elder sister on the other hand owns a 2011 Montero and so far so good.
Will my Pajero be my last Mitsubishi? Probably not. But one thing is sure, I am not going to buy the current Montero nor recommend it to other people. As for the latest generation, i would have to wait and see....
Getting a toyota would be ideal mostly for those looking for practicality or one who will use it...
