PROMPTED by a number of people complaining about the alleged "bad corporate practices" of Mitsubishi Motors Philippine Corp, a lawmaker has urged Congress to put the company under close scrutiny "in the interest of the consuming public."
"If warranted, it is necessary that Mitsubishi should publicly acknowledge the fact that their Pajeros and other models are defective and institute a recall if need be," said Compostela Valley Representative Manuel "Way Kurat" Zamora in a privileged speech he delivered Wednesday, a copy of which was released to the media on Friday.
Officials from Mitsubishi Philippines were not immediately available for comment.
Zamora said there were at least five people who have given him written accounts of their "travails and problems" in using Mitsubishi Pajero sports utility vehicles. He described these defective vehicles as "lemon Pajeros."
He noted that just last month, the international media began reporting on the massive recall of Pajeros and other Mitsubishi models worldwide due to production defects such as break fluid leaks, fuel leakage, defective airbags, a flaw in the hub design leading to wheel detachment, cracks in clutch housings, faulty engines, faulty brakes, and emergency doors, among others that have cost the lives of people and other accidents.
Zamora said Mitsubishi Motors had "not been directed to issue any public statement clarifying or denying" to its customers concerns on the safety and quality of Mitsubishi vehicles in the country.
"If the alleged culture of corporate denial and concealment has been uncovered and fully exposed in other countries, must it take a long time in our country for the consumers to suffer the consequences of defective products of a company?" he asked.
To avoid similar incidents, Zamora appealed to his colleagues in Congress to enact laws that would address this alleged "unscrupulous and deceptive corporate practices" of Mitsubishi Motors.

Representative Manuel "Way Kurat" Zamora
ito yung congressman na pinakita na sa channel 7 sa show ni Mel
ito din yung nag buhat ng mga balota nung election para daw mapabilis yung bilangan
this congressman from what i know started as a humble farmer and is well respected by his people.
Sana lang di sya masilaw ng pera
Sana hindi lang Mitsubishi ang mareport sa kanya, pati yung mga defective na Isuzu AUV units

Most companies have defective vehicles at one time or another. How come he is singling out Mitsubishi?

Sana pag-tuusan din niya ng pansin ang ibang problema ng nakararaming Pilipino.
No offense, pero kaunti lamang ang magbe-benefit if Mitsubishi is exposed. I mean, ilan lang naman ang naka Pajero or naka Mitsubishi among the 80 million Filipinos.
Still, it's a good move. Yun lang, sana it's not his only move.
