Your last resort would be to close the re-circulation vent physically and permanently ... This is what they do to European cars that are here ...
Thanks for the suggestion Walter, but I'm okay with using the A/C on manual mode. Actually, what I've encountered is after I have set the RECIRC BUTTON to stay ON PERMANENTLY based on the instructions on the user's manual...hehehe...There are times that when my son was the one turning on the A/C using the AUTO, the RECIRC Button actually is ON, but after sometime it automatically turns off. That's the reason why I said that using the AUTO will still turn off the RECIRC button, well again that is in my case.

Remember ... Auto Climate control is different from Auto Fan switch ...
I also find AUTO CLIMATE feature strange for montero.
Logically, once you push AUTO assuming the aircon is OFF. Aircon will engage and recirculation should steadily turn ON even without pressing the recirculation button.
For montero after you Press AUTO, as you said reCirculation will turn OFF and vice versa.
Unless you press the fan speed or press the the temp adjustment button on the passenger side then thats the time it will turnOFF but recirculation would still remain ON
I've had a 07 rav which has Auto climate control (yes more than 10 years ago technology na sya) and never had the same weird processes which I assume will have the same for other car makers especially the highend ones with this feature.
In a good note, that make our Montero Distinctively Unique. Hahaha
I am actually having similar issue with my WILDTRAK, I have to turn on the A/C using the RECIRC BUTTON for it to stay on permanently. This time I was too lazy to read the manual, so I ended up asking on the FB RANGER GROUP and the only solution that they have suggested is to turn on the A/C using the RECIRC BUTTON which what I am doing until now....hehehe.
If it's in full auto mode, I think the system will adjust based on inside ambient temp. If it deems it doesn't need to turn aircon to achieve target temp, it will just use fan. True in the case when you initially start your vehicle early in the morning. (malamig na yung loob ng kotse beforehand)
Imagine kung nasa Baguio ka and ang ambient temp is already at 20 deg Celsius tapos ang nilagay mo na target temp ay 24 deg Celsius. Then the system will sense that it's already cold inside the cabin and will just turn on the fan instead of the AC.
Ang problema na lang ay yung recirc mode. Sa ibang bansa kasi, default mode off yun to introduce fresh air sa loob ng sasakyan. Eh dito sa atin, usok lang papasok.
