Ill vote for REPLACE! Overhaul is just using the same troubled engine while replacing it with a surplus will give you a better choice as long as you know how to classify a good SURPLUS... GOodluck sir...

Neither. If you can look for others who's in it's greatest condition and is only needing minor repairs, better.

But if there's really no choice, then replace the " heart " of the L200 with a new one, in this case a surplus one.

We have a 1996 L-200 pick up (bought it brand new) yes very reliable and low maintenance, pang-business (delivery) at pag umuuwi ng province ginagamit namin, napabayaan lang ng driver ung engine kaya kumatok so we have to replace it with a surplus 4d56 turbo only this january. Im very happy kse mas malakas na engine.

How much is a surplus 4d56 turbo? Saan ho ba maganda bumili & could you recommend a reputable shop for the engine swap?

I don't know much about diesel engines. Hope I could get tips on how to pick a good one.

We bought the surplus engine for P50,000.00. Theres a lot of surplus engine store in banawe. Any reputable shop can do the engine swap, ung sa amin kase ung friend ng dad ko na mechanic lang gumawa, bolt on lang naman at palit lang ng engine support.

    sir,

not untill naputol yung hose from oil pan to alternator vacuum pump.(cguro sa kalumaan) plus cnabayan pa na nag malfunction yung oil pressure switch ng oil pressure warning, kaya naubusan ng engne oil while on long drive..hayun, general overhaul inabot..mga 30k plus dn nagastos. kawawa naman engine..

I would suggest a Nissan TD27 ng pathfinder at BD25 ng Ultra Eagle.
