where to go/what to see in Paris?

babalik kami next year...hopefully for a week or two at kasama si wifey instead of these cabrons from work :hihihi: so next year na siguro ang Versailles and hopefully the French Riviera...also i'm probably going to save the Louvre for next year also because i want to spend a whole day (or more) there and i don't think i can get my coworkers to agree to that.

I agree with fireblade that Paris is beautiful and at the same time a bit scary especially so if you cannot understand French! (hehehehe) If you ask some of them, for exapmple along the street; "Parles vous anglais?" (Do you speak English?), they will say " No parlez vous pas!" It means "I don't speak English".

MP, Let me share with you a few of the commonly used sentences/phrases in French:
"Comment ca va?" (pronounced as 'coment sa va') - How are you?
"Ca va!" (pronounced as 'sa va') - Am good, am ok!
"Tres Bien" (treb yan) - Very good!
"Bonjour" (bonjur) - good morning / good day
"Bon Soir" (bon swa) - good night
"Bon Nuit" (bon wi) - good evening
"Salute" (salut) - Cheers!

Meron masarap na bakeshop along Champs Elysees, kahelera ng Marriot Hotel that sells very nice "Macaroons!" If you're a sweet tooth, don't miss this opportunity! Pinipilahan din ang mga sandwiches nitong store na ito pag lunch time!

pero ingat sa metro. ang daming mandurukot. its worse than manila when pickpockets are concerned. dont put ur money in the wallet or even your pocket. pickpockets there know very much if you are a tourist.

pero mababait naman ang pickpockets dun, pera lang kinukuha, kapag nadukutan ka, in a couple of seconds ibabato nila pabalik sayo wallet mo, hehehe. siguro at least three times na may nag attempt mandukot sa akin during my stay there. lost 500usd on my wallet on the first attempt. then i learned from experience.

Go to the LV shop on Champs Elysees and buy your wife a bag.

May quota na 3 bags per person sa shop na yun and on busy days, there's even a queue outside. I heard a rumor that pinoys queue outside and offer their 3 "slots" for a nominal fee to rich buyers who wanna buy more than 3 bags. Ewan ko lang how true that is. Hehehe...

Get on the red double decker bus. Get on/off as you please and it goes all over the city. You'll see everything in one day. Versailles is doable in one day. If there's one tip I can give, it's always greet people whenever entering a store. They consider it extremely rude if you don't acknowledge them. Bon jour! And they will be more accommodating if you try to speak their language (they'll help you) rather than English off the bat. They're very nice people. Just remember you're not in America anymore so treat them differently and you should be okay.

Someone mentioned the Louvre. If there was one place to go...

Agree. Try and they will reciprocate. They are a lovely people. To an extent I find them like pinoys as well. I have loads of french friends and they exhibit similar traits. kahit yung pag-tsimis and watching people and making comments and being clanish.

Yung concern about pickpockets is real. They can spot an outsider like a sore thumb. Plus it is highly likely you may not look like you are from there.

Inggit din ako kasi ang sarap ng food dun. Kahit bread lang will make you realize why they revolted because of the lack of it.

I was there in 2004 during my master's degree in Frankfurt. When looking at the colorcoded map, you are most likely to miss it, because it's not emphasized. But at least, I got to really look for it after the Eiffel tower. Its worth it gyud... Beside it you can also check out the window shops for live ladies... hehehe... Window shopping gyud..
