SENATOR Miriam Defensor-Santiago may have to undergo “psychological and psychiatric tests” as part of the requirements of a candidate for the position of Chief Justice, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said Wednesday.
Gonzalez said that under Rule 6, Section 2 of the rules of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), “The applicants shall submit to psychological and psychiatric test to be conducted by the Supreme Court medical clinic or by a psychologist and or psychiatrist duly accredited by the council.”
Gonzalez said the JBC would meet next week to determine if Santiago could do away with the tests since she was a senator and former judge.
But Gonzalez believes that no one should be exempted from the law.
He noted that Santiago was a judge during the Marcos era when the JBC did not exist.
