Not really me thinking. But, the management above is concerned why I declined a promotion twice now.

    The reason I gave them:
I like being up front and in the middle of the action. I like doing shift work and dealing with our clients directly instead of 9 to 5, working at the back office.

    What I really thought:
Damn. These guys are my peers with one 10 years younger than me. Yet, they're all graying, balding, getting fat, and wrinkling with baggy eyes. Something is stressing them out. I think I'll stay where I am. The extra money isn't worth it.

Same experience with you sir.[emoji4] just stay where you're happy. Your health is more important. The increase in pay would just eventually go to buying maintenance medicine later on. [emoji13]

My supervisor is concerned what declining a promotion (2x) might do to my annual evaluation. Oh well. I'm sure I'm not the first one.

Just tell them what you told them before. That you're happy dealing with your clients personally.[emoji4]

When i was in the same spot. The first time they let me off easily but the second time They insisted on my promotion back then and set a panel interview. My immediate superior told me secretly after the interview i would get the job after their meeting. There were only 2 of us for the spot and the other was my junior. What! I panicked and went straight to the VP and told him i really felt i'm not the right guy for the position and ask him instead to pick my junior seriously. It worked! Hahaha! [emoji4]

It turned out to be academic. There are several coworkers ahead of me for the promotion slot.

During the moves from Arizona to New York and then back to Arizona, I dropped one pay grade. So, I'm actually two pay grades behind what I should have been if I hadn't moved and gotten promoted on schedule.

I guess my supervisor wasn't aware of the change. There was that confusion. I had to show them a leave and earning statement that showed what my current pay grade is.

And i think things happen because there's a reason and in the end all things will work out fine for you. Just let things come your way naturally. Cross the bridge when you get there so to speak. And if you feel that you're happy with your current position then by all means be happy. You said it that the pay hike isn't worth it. Which i also said when i was in the same spot and i didn't regret it. I'm now happy with my life. Not rich but happy and contented. After all money is not everything sir.[emoji4]

If my current job was my only source of income, the extra pay would matter more. As it is, I still have another source of income which pay all the bills and still have enough left for savings. Making it to the next higher pay grade isn't as critical to me. I'm happy to coast along at my current position until I'm 62 when I become eligible for double retirement (plus Social Security).
