My oldest kid wasn't happy when she overheard me say I'll turn her room into a Game Room when she moves out. You, know, billiard table, beer fridge, my PC, bunch of aircraft photos and posters....American flag, old military souvenirs, plaques, diplomas, and other stuff to glorify myself.

Her: "What if I come to visit?"

Me: Well, there's the sofa in the family room or if you want, an air mattress. Quit compaining. You know, when I visited your mom in the PH, I had to sleep on a "banig."

C'mon, that doesn't make sense. Granted, I slept on a mahogany floor. Probably cost a lot of money. But, you know what? Mahogany floors are hard.

Here, we have carpeted floors. I can sleep on that without anything else.

She's been to the PH with her mom. But, I'll bet she slept on a nice bed that belonged to her relative while that person had to sleep on the floor.

i used to sleep comfortably on a bamboo slat bed or "papag".
    nice and airy.
    nowadays, however... "masakit!"

Bamboo slats? Yeah. I slept on those too in an old nipa-style house. It just added to the culture shock I was experiencing at the time.

I was just thinking..... a low-tech (and much much cheaper) alternative to a Blind Spot Monitoring System would be concave or convex side mirrors. Probably the latter.

my dad's kapatids knew their mom wouldn't want to live in the city.
so they built a bahay kubo for her, complete with papag, in the middle of the metro!
it had electricity, running water, and other conveniences.

Makes you wonder what's going on with these car makers. Probably why prices have increased. All these sensor-driven safety tech are also making the wife a little jumpy.

Also, if you want kids, avoid the radar-equipped cars.

Just got back from the gym. Although I don't look my age, there are some things that are my age. My right knee, for example. It seems like it's getting unhinged every time I go for the rebound. I think it's time to quit playing half-court basketball "1 to 15" and stick to simpler/shorter games like 21 or H-O-R-S-E.

I've always been fascinated with the nomadic lifestyle. If I remained single throughout my life? This is how I'd live. No house, no bills. Let my pension accumulate in the bank. Technically, I'd be a homeless person.

^ lately, on my YouTube timeline, i've been seeing & ultimately watching usa peeps convert their honda elements, Subaru outbacks, toyota hiluxes, etc into serious moving mini apartments w/ specific designed space saving wooden sliding fixtures for their vehicles. Apparently these peeps have the desire to live off the grid for several months at a time.

They're very different from overlanders who only go out to the boondocks for the weekend. It's all very intriguing.

do what you gotta do so you can do what you wanna do

I spent a good part of my life camping and living in tents or being a road warrior (plus traveling overseas on my own). So, yeah. I sort of have the urge too. But, I have a family. The only travel and adventure they like is to the mall or tourist traps (yuk).
