So considered as self-made si Villar kahit married siya into one of the richest family?

having the aguilar wealth, probably helped him.
but i daresay he now has much more than they do or did.

For me yes kasi hindi naman siya nakuntento leeching off the money of the wife's family. He elevated them from just another one of the many rich families in the country to the RICHEST

Reminds me of the parable of talents. The servant that grew the talents/coins

a caveat on the list of "richest" folks. even from abroad listings.

the list is based on perceived or declared assets and liabilities.
for obvious reasons, those with significant but un-declared assets are, of course, not on anyone's list.

Of course we'll never really know but according to published data, he is the richest man in the country

Kaya nga hinde ko differentiate kung nakatulong saiyo wealth, connection ng pamilya mo to achieve success.

Parehong self-made sa akin yun galing sa mayaman na pamilya at Rags to richest.

Same. Poor to middle class mas common but as you move up mas mahirap na. Kaya I give credit to those born into wealth and made their own money

Parang may nabasa ako na middle class ang pinakamahirap to move up

Probably the honest middle class, whether employed or running a business, because you carry the burden of endless taxes....

If a privileged person is jobless for a year or has their business go bankrupt, they will have family’s wealth to cover for their basic needs. Typically they will also have connections to help them quickly back on their feet.

If a less-privileged person is jobless for a year or goes bankrupt, they spiral into debt, can lose their home, and will not be able to afford any major medical emergency. It can easily turn into generational poverty as well.

It’s much easier to lean forward and take bold risks if you have safety nets for your basic needs.

Also, in a capitalistic society, access to capital is one of the biggest enablers for building wealth. Money begets money.

That said, I still admire those who were able to build upon their generational wealth, since there are others born into money who just squandered it away. However, people who made something for themselves while coming from modest means are more impressive in my eyes.

A long/short history of why the Villars are the biggest Stock Market conmen in Philippine History : Philippines

"What the lenders did not know at the time though was that C&P was a terrible company. Ayala in their willingness to buy the company looked into C&P records and revealed that C&P have lands that have no titles, they have titles that have no lands, and cash control is known only to one man: Manny Villar. The total price of their assets was largely determined by how Villar himself valued the lands it owned. Naturally he overpriced junk lands."

While looking up for hotels in fb I bump into a page with cheap hotel deals but you have to pay up first and you will just mention your name upon check-in. Hotels mostly in paranaque area like Okada, COD. Scam or legit?

    how do you pay?

before covid, we would make reservations for the hotel (in HK, SG), using our CCs.
i suppose, being charged one day's worth for non-appearance, is the industry norm.

read the fine print first, po.

I happen to chat with a "seller" and she told me VIP players gets a room or a restaurant and they are selling those slots for interested buyers so no voucher or whatsoever you pay in gcash or bank deposit then you just mention your name in the hotel and they will accompany you to your room or table.
