in the olden days,
fridays was traditionally a day of abstinence from meat (including chicken), even if it is not the season of Lent.
hence the munggo and the isda.

the late Cardinal Sin petitioned to the Pope, that the philippines be spared from this traditional practice, because, he reasoned, many filipinos had trouble putting food on the table, what more if they be given restrictions on what food are allowed.
the petition was granted. in its lieu, certain non-dietary Catholic practices were allowed as substitute.

but we still have to practice meat-less fridays during Lent.

btw,
senior citizens and the sick, are not required to fast and abstain.

My Spanish group asked if we could meet up na and I said I can't so sila they will push through na but in Ortigas na lang. They are all from the area (Mandaluyong, Pasig and QC) and only go Makati and BGC for me hehe. Wonder why people are going out from isolation. Even my family they wanna xmas lunch (tradition since before I was born). Pero sa CPA friends ko mga naka isolate pa rin (never dined in pa)
