They actually won't with proper roofing, drainage, cladding & glass applications. Aging should be considered part of its distinct character & art. All about approach.[emoji4]
Oh...the cost...buying used significantly stretches the gap between them container & concrete structures.[emoji4]

I agree. Pang temporary shelter lang or office ang container vans.

Huwag na kasi gumaya sa abroad na ginagawang bahay shipping containers. Masyado gaya-gaya hinde naman bagay dito sa local settings.

    bottom line: walang tumatagal

Think cost & outside them boxes. Art, architecture & proper building tech can add em value.
There are companies now manufacturing frames aimed at similar aesthetics at a fraction of traditional structural cost...
A matter of technical & design approach.

many years ago there was one commercial area along quezon ave near national book store (if you're heading towards edsa, lampas lang ng mercury drug/national book store)

puro container vans and the stores are mostly selling clothes and sneakers

    di tumagal

    i get the concept ok?

    it doesn't last

i haven't seen a container van commercial area that lasted even few a years

Sad reality here....lack/absence of originality, sir. Old homes we claim historical are mostly of Hispanic & American colonial influences. Engineering & architectural textbooks, studies & references were mostly western. Even our building codes aren't our own. Truly local & endemic were of primitive methods & materials...light & temporary. So what originality is there to claim?

Thanks mga sir, this big investment is for the future of our kids and hopefully this won't be the last, me and my barkadas already put up a company and registered it at the SEC, to be honest, compared to my friends, I don't have a deep pocket, hopefully I can keep up with them as they plan to buy and buy properties.

As for the container kind of structures, looks nice but I think the others won't like it, usually they want are those who will stand the test of times and metal is not one of them.

decisions are made with $$$ in mind

make decisions with emotions/nostalgia/romance you end up losing $$$

emotional pursuits of nostalgia/artsy/romance are for established rich kids/trust fund babies whose family fortunes can subsidize losses and keep money-losing ventures operating indefinitely

If resources are there for a proper traditional longterm structure, that surely is the better path. The suggestion to go metal was a response to the hint of budget limit, sir. Possibilities & options aren't limited to the conventional.

    used container van -- cheap

beautify it/make it useable -- not cheap

hoping the public would check out a freaking container park -- gamble

    it's a novelty

    "oh how nice"

    would you come back?

    "nope"

potential renters -- "i'm not gonna pay the same amount as renting a proper space. i'm only renting a container van dude"

might as well build something with steel, concrete, and glass

Twasn't meant to be about art vs moolah, sir, but a suggested route if initial funds were a concern.
The team's building advocacy here has always been about taking ownership in everything we do. From needs, wishes, budget...to design/material/tech problem elimination...& down to keeping upkeep the lowest....its frequency, farthest apart.
Containers, I agree, do pose challenges in space & corrosion management...& the 'temporary' impression. I've seen all these compensated by ingenious focal designs & approaches.
If there's one thing the Ph isn't deficient of...it's brilliant minds. Blessed here to know a handful them.[emoji120][emoji4]
