I heard on the radio. An incident where an OFW who owns an account on East West Bank in Cebu. Transferred P480k to a certain person to East West Bank in Tanauan without his knowledge. And East West claims that he is the one who transferred it via Email to East West requesting Fund Transfer.

A couple of questions comes mind.
1. Are there really banks like East West that allow fund transfer via email? Because if there are, that's very stupid. Cause I for one knows that there are software our there that can send email where the "from" field can be edited, Meaning I can send emails and make it appear that it came from a certain person.

2. Shouldn't a fund transfer worth half a million trigger an alert to AMLC? And from there verification should be done and they will find out that the transaction is bogus?

Email authorization for fund transfer is not possible. Either wet or electronic signature has to take place before the bank executes a transaction unless, there is connivance. But then again, people would attempt to ride on the tide hoping to cash in like the SUA case.

thats what i thought too. but the East West bank Cebu said that they got a lot of email from the OFW asking to transfer the fund, which as posted here is just below money laundering trigger. the email says that its a special request since the OFW is in South Africa (but the real OFW is in Afghanistan) and cant perform the transaction.

How to control spending. I just found out that I've been spending more than I've been earning. If it weren't for bonuses I'd be in debt I think I need to list down all my purchases. Sometimes the little things add up. My office BFF is also magastos so it's hard to control, we eat out almost everyday for the past few months

First & foremost is cut your credit card and use cash. Doing so you can see/monitor real time your cash position thus you can control if you have money to spend or it's getting thin. Eating out is fine, but go budget meal.

A little bit of trivia as something hit me about budget meal. Do you know the current budget meal worth P50 now, can feed an entire family of 6 in a good restaurant in the 60's , may sukli pa. Damn, how i missed my childhood.
