Sometimes the things we go through in life are self inflicted, like Rep. Salceda said re: inflation.

If you are consistently proactive in improving every aspect of your life and still it gives you lemons, maybe you've earned the right to vent out a little. Bear in mind, a lot of people put in the effort and still come out on the losing end.

But one thing is for sure. Just complaining won't get anyone anywhere. Am reminded by that saying: "Madness is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting things to change".

I guess what I'm thankful for is despite major setbacks, I've still somehow been rewarded for my efforts.

we may believe we deserve more, but in reality, we are getting more than what we deserve.

Being content is the key to happiness.

    Wanting less.

Sabi ng marami, first world problems mga yun. Pero lahat tayo may problema. Kahit si Henry Sy, #1 richest Filipino, may problema yun.

It's a matter of perspective. Sometimes, looking at other people's situation will help us realize that yes, out lives are better. But comparing all the time won't help. Because also, there will always be someone whose lives are better than us. Dyan pumapasok yung ego. Keeping up with the Joneses ika nga.

Don't know where I heard it pero pinaka madali daw na problema eh kahirapan. Madali lang solusyon, pera, kumain ka 3 beses isang araw, may bubong ka, kuntento na. Hindi tulad ng mayaman, problema sa pag ibig, problema sa pamilya, etc.

But then again contentment doesn't mean he is free of problem.

I think both rich and poor people could encounter same problems with love, family etc. Rich people however somehow have the upper hand because they are exempted to that 1 problem which is lack of money.

Earth life is prison life. We need to discover our internal energy, si :MyPres nailabas na nya ang buong intenral energy na nya, and look at him, he can say what he want, do what he wants and somehow, he’s protected by a hidden force. No amount of intelligence or logic or good moral compass from any of us cant bring him down.

Parang may guardian angel talaga sya. Eh kasi naman talaga condensceding naman talaga ang s style ng isang do gooder talaga, its also for self vanity

    but here's the thing

it's the constant desire to improve that has lifted mankind from the stone age

if cavemen became content we'd still sitting around camp fires at night instead of watching netflix

it's discontent that has driven the upward surge of mankind

(yun nga lang at the expense of the planet)

    For discussion purposes...

    What's wrong with this scenario?

People still do that. Go out. Camp. Sit on a bonfire and watch the stars?

Would we say that the cavemen, or to be closer to reality, our lolos and lolas had an unhappy life because they never had internet or celfones or whatever improvement that we can call that we enjoy today?

There is a term for that. Shifting baseline. When our baseline, our reference to everything is what we experienced. Instead of the totality of the world. And situation before that baseline is unfathomable and abnormal to us.

i knew someone would say "so what's wrong with sitting around a camp fire at night telling stories?... that's nice"

i would answer "well, cavemen didn't have toilets. Wanna live without toilets?"

basically my point is there's this drive in humans to keep improving things

from horse-drawn carriages to internal combustion engine powered automobiles

from oil lamps to electric light bulbs

    from bows&arrows to rifles

You can be content and still strive for more. You can be thankful with what you have but at the same time still have big dreams. These are not mutually exclusive.

Also, it's action that leads to progress. Possible that action is due to discontent, but it's getting out of your comfort zone that pushes the boundaries. And you can still step out of your comfort zone while keeping an attitude of gratitude - again, not mutually exclusive.

Discontentment with no action (aka whining) leads to nothing but misery and temporary catharsis.

How does one know if someone is content, especially if he is still in his prime?

I can see that it is being at peace with one's status but to me, it is akin to (not exactly giving up but) pursuing less the things you think you can somehow improve upon.

Can one live life with (burning) passion and be content at the same time?

some folks would be content, if things were going according to plan.
