our ground-level tank does not need a pump to fill it up. we are lucky here, that the nawasa pressure is strong enough. the filler pipe above it is always open, closed by a float valve when the tank is full.
our pressure tank (to get the water up to the upper floors) gets its water via pressure pump, from this tank.

After so many weeks of research on available units locally, e.g. online in Shopee or Lazada, I finally settled on this model - the Denon DP-450 semi-automatic turntable.

I have set my sights on several brands/models at my price range, but what tilted the favor to this one is its simplicity while still offering you plenty of flexibility. The headshell is the universal Technics style, of which plenty of copies are available online. This affords you a great range of cartridges to choose from. But what really settled it for me is the great price at which I was able to snag one. Otherwise, I'll still be on the fence given that I do have my older Audio Technica AT-LP120 (non-USB). Being an affordable copy of the venerable Technics SL-1200, corners had been cut which did affect performance. So I decided to just get a no frills table instead - belt driven, no strobe, no pitch control, semi-automatic.

To those who may also be on the hunt, these are my thoughts on the available competition. Malapit na naman ang 7/7 sale.

Rega Planar 1 - UK designed, UK built. As far as audiophile tables go, this one is quite very affordable as per Shopee price. There are also tons of positive, even glowing reviews online. But this comes with a fixed headshell, so you can only change the cartridge. But then it messes up with the preset anti-skating mechanism designed specifically for the included Rega Carbon cartridge.

Denon DP-300f - the older brother of the DP-400/ DP-450. This is a fully automatic turntable with a hifi pedigree. A step up for those really cheap entry level turntables. Headshell is replaceable, only if you can find where to source one though.

Denon DP-400 - the same table as my choice just with no USB. Out of stock at the moment though.

Audio Technica AT-LPW40WN - Stylish wooden base turntable, straddling between hifi and audiophile grade already. Straight tonearm though with again hard to source headshell for cartridge rolling.

Pioneer PLX-500 - almost the same table as my A/T LP-120 with minor fixes for the latter's perceived bugs. At the time I am shopping around, only available color is white. I guess plenty of people still prefer black so these became leftover units. Quite a good buy if you do prefer the more pristine color.

If you can stretch your budget, here are other possible choices: Pioneer PLX-1000, Audio Technica AT-LP5X, Audio Technica AT-LP1240-USB, Denon DJ VL12 Prime, Pro-Ject Audio Carbon DC, Reloop RP-8000 MK2

Kung kapos sa budget, may mga excellent choices pa rin naman: Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT-BK, Denon Dp-29F, Reloop Turn 2, Reloop RP-1000 MK2. No Crosleys for me.

    ^COOL!

Unfortunately for me I have never heard an LP in my entire life. Cassette na kasi when I was born, but my parents have some LPs here left. I was told iba talaga ang charm ng LP.

As of now I'm using Edifier powered bookshelf speakers. Pwede na muna ito while I do the initial turntable setup as well as comparisons with my AT-LP120 to see which of them to retain.

Permanent setup will be with a Marantz Class A vintage amplifier with phono input and a low impedance (<6 ohms) hifi tower speakers. Kung di kakayanin, baka yung Wharfedale Diamond 10.6 ko na lang from my HT setup. Pwede ring 2.1 with my Parasound 4" bookshelf speakers and Atlantic Technology 10" subwoofer.

Or I could do two setups for the meantime given the materials are available na naman and just sell one of the decks when I have the need to.

Wow! Would you know kung ilan approximately yung remaining LPs ninyo? For sure they were relatively well taken cared of naman. Baka you may want to offer it by lot if you've got no use for them.

But before you do that, baka you may want to try muna dipping your toes in this engaging hobby. Something to do at home while still out of commission.

No, I'm not. Far from it. Hehe.

Yung AT-120 DJ turntable lang ang unang binili ko because at that time pulos 2nd hand tables lang ang available, and mostly in poor condition at that. I also can't afford the SL-1200 then (and still can't afford now). So the Audio Technica is the next best thing. Sound wise, okay naman siya although the motor (or platter?) hum really bothers me. Also, yung mga features nya like adjustable pitch, reverse, strobe eh di ko naman nagagamit kaya I decided to simplify things na lang. To get away with the hum from the direct drive motor, I opted to go with belt driven this time around. No bells and whistles na rin except I need to be able to change cartridges. So a replaceable headshell is a must. These are now feasible options given the great supply of turntable belts, phono cartridges, and tonearm headshells available online.

What is the last thing you purchased?
