I was told huwana means Filipina and huwanapo is maid. The etymology is insulting na parang equated ang Filipina sa maids

First love ko nagsabi nyan and he's Chinese.

Either I got the "stinking" part wrong, or my Professor who's now working for Andrew Tan got it wrong. Either way, "Huwana" is a pejorative term used to refer to "Filipinos" in general. Much like when Filipinos call Indians as "pana" or Chinese as "chekwa". It's a demeaning racist word -- that's the fact.

"Huwana" a racial word used to refer to "Filipinos" in general. "Huwanapo" is an extension and refers to "maids" "domestic helpers". Literally it means "Stinking Barbarians", so I was told. Because to the Chinese, most Filipinos are "uneducated" and "uncivilized" (ergo "Barbaric") as sir uls said pointed out.

huwag po sana kayo magalit sakin di naman ako nag imbento ng mga terms na yan

those terms have been around for a long time

i guess ang origin niyan long ago when intsiks came to PH and saw people eating with their hands and other things they observed they called the people barbaric and it stuck

People have their own racist ways. The practice has been there ever since and we have learned to live with it.

The Spaniards look down on the Chinese, the same way as the American or Europeans do. This is the reason why the Chinese built their own towns and cemeteries outside of the walls/communities built by the Spaniards or Americans.

In Rizal's Noli, it was written that the remains of Juan Crisostomo Ibarra's dad was transferred to a Chinese cemetery to segregate him from the non-heretical Catholics. It clearly shows the disdain of the Spaniards against the Chinese.
