The problem with looking for man's precursor is that there are none left... the species has evolved into us. And fossil records are naturally spotty. Some species just plain lived in areas and conditions that did not foster fossil formation. Also, evolution is not always slow. Species in isolation can undergo extremely quick development given the right conditions.

While I may be a God fearing man, I don't believe in Genesis literally. Even the Catholic Church has released a missive stating that Darwin's Theory in no way contradicts the teachings of the Bible. Genesis is an allegorical fable regarding the role of the Creator, and should be taken as such.

As for evidence... as one engineer once said: "Give me the tools, and I can design a better man." If you want to see evidence of Man's roots, look at yourself.

I have a newborn daughter, and every time I look at her, I think it's wonderful that we've become so sophisticated, given such humble roots. When you stroke her hands, she grips your finger. Know why? That reflex enabled our ancestors to cling to the fur of their mothers.

When you stroke her feet, her toes curl and try to cling to your finger. (And they succeed to some extent, my daughter has very long toes). This is from a time when our feet could grasp, like most tree-borne primates' feet. And this reflex happens for the same reason that the hand reflex does, to grasp the fur of the mother as she carries the baby around.

These wonderful arms of ours developed from our tree-swinging ancestors, have a terrific degree of motion. For a savannah creature, which early man was, they made no sense before he found out about weapons.

And there are many other things about man that point to his humble origins. Vestigial body hair, from the time we needed it for warmth in the trees. We only lost the rest of it when we started to walk the savannah... where excessive body hair was a hindrance.

Our legs have developed for walking, but they are not optimal for it yet. Our feet are too big, our legs are too short. We don't need the extreme flexibility of our hip joints for walking, either. Our thighs are too long and our shanks are too short. Our lungs could be bigger, our bones should be lighter. Our teeth are not fully adjusted to our diet of meat yet, and we still possess the capacity to eat vegetation (even though our ancestors were primarily hunters)... but our gut is not as well developed as an herbivore's either. The appendix is a vestigial organ that may have helped us digest vegetation in the past, but does nothing now.

Man is a work in progress. And when I look at my baby, I often wonder what her great great grandchildren will look like.

I do want to believe in a Creator... but is it so hard to believe he could create something as wonderful as Evolution?

There's a new concept sweeping right now: INTELLIGENT DESIGN.

    I believe in this too.

Actually the Bible contains many symbolic passages that are not meant to be taken literally.

About INTELLIGENT DESIGN, it means there exists a divine Being that actually designed everything that ever naturally existed in our universe.

I believe Somebody designed the blue print of the human body. If you study Genetics, it's hard to believe that million years of evolution is all it takes for single cells to transform into complex organs that make up our human body. I believe these cells contain a master blue print that was "designed", and not just "evolved".

Both. I do believe in evolution because there is evidence of dinosaurs slowly evolving into birds. I honestly believe that birds are descendants of dinosaurs.

As for humans, I don't see why not. Human time on this planet is a drop in the bucket compared to the dinosaurs. EVidence may be harder to find.

I do believe in an all-powerful force responsible for all these and God is the answer.

I may be a bit leery on the Genesis part of the Bible. But, I have no doubts about many aspects of the Bible as being true. After all, we've been to Turkey where we visited the "7 Churches", one of the first Churches established by St Peter at Antakya Turkey, and also St. Paul's house, or at least the remains of it. In fact, here's my wife and a friend reading the marker at the excavation of St.Paul's house in Tarsus, Turkey.

I also believe in many aspects of the Bible. I do believe the antiChrist is alive at this stage which is why I'm closer to God. There will be a looming struggle between good and evil and life as we know it will not be the same..

I've also been fortunate in life so far which I attribute to my efforts and God watching over me.....

i agree with most of the posts here....very enlightening indeed.

but whatever we do...we will NEVER fully SEE or UNDERSTAND the creator.we are mere HUMAN BEINGS. 100%, there is a CREATOR.

while i believe in God, its hard for me to accept the genesis theory. if we all came from just one couple (adam and eve), how do you explain the existence of the various races in the planet (blacks, whites, orientals, etc)? halimbawa, kung negro si adam at si eve, paano nagkaroon ng mga puti?

The problem with Intelligent Design is that it is philosophical in nature, yet the ID groups are pushing for its inclusion in the science curriculum. It's a belief system, and not a science.

The idea that we're too complicated to have evolved is based merely on personal conviction. I could also argue that computers and the internet are both too complicated for mere humans to have developed, couldn't I?

Like I said, it's just a way to make us feel good about being human, and more based on the concept that humanity is perfect and could never have been less. Looking around at the world today and how people treat one another... it seems that humanity is as far from perfection as possible...

You may personally believe this... but do you want your children taught this in science class instead of evolution?

Next thing you know, they'll be teaching us that the sun radiates heat because the love of God warms it. That should go in Physics 101, too.
