Did you notice warmer malls and limited operations of escalators on April 16 to 19?
Because businesses powered down, our homes kept their lights on.
When the National Grid Corporation raised the alarm for insufficient power supply, businesses pledged their support to Department of Energy's Interruptible Load Program (ILP), and voluntarily shut down non-essential equipment, shifted to generators and lessened their electricity usage, so that power outages (brownout) could be avoided.
Our sincerest appreciation goes out to all our ILP partners. The electricity saved was enough to supply the electricity needs of as much as 1.9M* households.
You too can make a difference this summer season by using energy-efficient appliances and gadgets.
