Amen to that but not after Abnoy blame & fired Dir Nilo.
In July 2010, the Philippines were hit by Typhoon Basyang, the second tropical cyclone during the 2010 Pacific typhoon season to impact the nation.

Conson was poorly forecast by PAGASA. From July 12 to 13, Conson was forecast to hit Aurora and Isabela provinces. But, at 11 pm PST (1500 UTC) on July 13 PAGASA changed its forecast from hitting Aurora and Isabela provinces, to Quezon province, Metro Manila and southern Luzon provinces. However, residents living in those areas were not advised that the typhoon would hit their area and they also were not informed that public storm signal number 2 was raised. With this, severe damage ensued in the said areas. Later that same day, President Benigno Aquino III reprimanded PAGASA for failing to predict that Conson would pass over Manila.[6]

As a result, Aquino criticized PAGASA for not warning the residents of Metro Manila about the strong tropical storm that struck the nation's capital.[7] However, according to Dr. Nilo and PAGASA, the agency didn't have adequate equipment to "accurately" predict a movement of a storm and the weather forecasting instruments were too old and needed to be upgraded.

That is command responsibility.

If i were Abnoy, i would not do that. He was just a few days into his leadership, so if i was him, i will try to understand where & what went wrong. As a new leader, one has to motivate the subordinate first and provide the right tools. When all this is done, they still screw up, then he has all the right to fire.

The way i see it, ginamait ni Abnoy yung event para magpakilala cya meaning, you better stand up or you'll be fired irregardless and he see Pagasa being a tech & support agency, walang politics walang military easy fray. But in the end, when he saw Pagasa people demoralized leaving the agency one by one for greener pasture only he move his ass.

And kung tama cya, Nilo would not be overseas by now being benefited by other country and earning much much more than when he was with Pagasa.

Pero in the end, PAGASA got better because of PNoy. It does not matter if you like it. Mas mahalaga marami mas makikinabang.

Normal lang to find greener pasture. That is their prerogative.

Hater gonna hate nga naman. Wala na tamang nagawa. tsk tsk

Seems i made the right decision earlier to slosh through the rain. i''ve i've been through much worse though, so i wasn't expecting a red warning.

Ngayon lang ako nakabalik sa Twitter: traffic really bad along Pasay Road, Lots of buses filled to the brink, but still lots of people stranded along EDSA.

And, to add insult to injury, another storm may be coming in. To be named Onyok:

LPA east of Mindanao may turn into new cyclone over PH PAGASA

    Stay safe everyone

Nona death toll rises to 34

    Saturday, December 19, 2015 11:32AM

Thirty-four people have been confirmed killed as of Saturday morning due to the onslaught of Typhoon Nona in Luzon and Visayas regions.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced in a live briefing that 13 of the deaths were reported in Mimaropa, five in Cagayan Valley, three in Calabarzon, four in Bicol, eight in Eastern Visayas and one in Metro Manila.

NDRRMC chief Alexander Pama also reported that five more people have been reported missing and 24 others were injured due to Nona.

Pama also reported that 42 roads and 21 bridges in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and CAR were still impassable.

He also said that eight cities and 45 municipalities are still experiencing power interruptions due to damaged power lines caused by Nona's strong winds.

In an earlier report, the agency said a total of 165,554 families or more than 740,000 people were preemptively evacuated in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Central and Easetern Visayas in preparation for the onslaught of the typhoon.

Meanwhile, Pama said that 2, 076 families or 9,984 people were preemptively evacuated in Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Island, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte and Davao Oriental in preparation for Tropical Depression Onyok.

Onyok weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) after making landfall over Manay, Davao Oriental on Friday night.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, weather bureau PAGASA said that the LPA that was formerly Onyok was estimated in the vicinity of Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

It said that the LPA and the tail-end of a cold front will bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms over Caraga region, Central and Eastern Visayas and the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Davao Oriental, Aurora and Quezon.

PAGASA said that heavy rains in these areas may cause flashfloods and landslides.

It advised fishermen not to venture out into the northern, eastern and western seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao. —ALG, GMA News
