I don't think an MBA is better than a Specialized Graduate course as the hotel management course you are thinking of getting. Too many MBA's already so that companies use the criteria of your previous background as the basis for hiring rather than the fact that you already got your MBA. Anyway, a lot of the subjects in the MBA are not going to be of immediate use anyway to you in your career as you need the necessary experience and authority to be able to use them.

US may like it or not, but China will be an emerging economic power sooner that they expected....They are using their govt system as a means of attracting foreign investors, not the other way around.....walang laborers union sa china, walang rally against their company, local salary can be regulated ng govt at walang makakaangal dito, otherwise kulong sila, price of local product like steel, aluminium, etc. can also be regulated by the govt, hence they have a very competetive price price in the international market, and even if they import some of their raw material, they can still demand for a lower price in the world market bec. of the bulk of their order....who can ignore china if they order for example a 100 tons of banana in the phils, but they want a tantamount of discount, so that they can also sell it cheap....sure thing even if the top executive finds the deal too ridiculous, they still will consider it.....

But would you really rather be a Chinese national than Taiwanese?

Sure there are benefits to be had in terms of ease of regulation by being a communist government, but the more progressive they become, the more the people will start to realize, how much they're missing for not being free.

If you were a chinese living in the west, unless there is something to make you hate your adoptive country, what sane reasons are there for you to want to go back to China?

No offense, guys, but the truth is I'm so bored about hearing how new technology keeps popping out in the west, not to mention the "top-secret" ones like the US Air Force's main technology test bed, the "Skunk Works".

I'm so bored, in fact, that it's gotten impossible for me to think that any other country in the world is every going to surpass US in terms of technology and military prowess.

My point is, I don't see China becoming a military threat to the US, at least not in the proverbial millenia.

I'm sure everyone here knows how the internet started as the ARPANET, previously developed by the US military.

nakakalungkot naman to, im going there pa naman in January for an 18-month internship sa hotel, most probably sa central or east coast ako, ang baba nga ng sweldo, $10/hr, 40hrs per wk, i really need a 2nd job, pero bawal daw with J1 visa holders, so i need to have one which wont require papers, madali ba maghanap ng ganito?

Dapat kc work na ko sa emirates, kaya lang parang nakakabobo yung flight attendant job, so i think this is a much better alternative.

I think, MBA or any MS/MA is better than not having an MBA compared to the same person of an equal skills and experience.

Yung accountant namin for 8 years na walang Bachelors galit na galit. Dahil ang baguhang newly graduate degree holder accountant ay mas malaki ng 50% ang sweldo kaysa sa kanya. Tapos sya pa ang nag train dun sa baguhan :hihihi: hindi pa galing ng ivy league ang baguhang accountant, State U. lang.

Now in this case, mas mabagsik ang degree holder kesa sa experience.

as someone who works with both US and offshore (India and Philippines) employees, let me give my perspective:

our US employees are highly tenured and high-salaried. with that tenure comes a sense of entitlement and complacency. many of them feel more like they are owed their jobs and their paychecks, and do nothing to protect their jobs, except complain when their pay increase isn't what they expected, or whine when we raise their goals. of course, many of them also strive to always do better, and those are the ones that have a bright future. but many do not.

our offshore employees are bright, driven, willing to work hard, and want to grow within their jobs. we also pay them less than half of the US people.

btw, our offshore operations are primarily call centers, and i'm not saying that anyone here is lazy or complacent. i'm just saying that this is what companies are seeing, and that's why it's a good idea for them to have offshore operations.

do i think that as i move operations outside the US, that eventually my job might be moved offshore as well? yes. but it's happening anyway, and my responsibility to my boss and our shareholders is to maximize the returns and the growth of the company.

i got admitted kc at cornell for post grad, ma in hotel mgt, pero parang mas gusto ko ng MBA that's why i think the experience at the hotel will be more helpful, it's a more solid foundation for mba kesa sa airline job.

wow, gretz...that's very impressive! congratulations!! cornell is one of the top hotel mgmt programs in the world, and a top 10-15 business school. MA or MBA, i think your future is bright.
