Sun Cellular blames Smart for connection failures
    Posted: 8:26 AM | Mar. 16, 2005

DIGITAL Telecommunication Philippines (Digitel) has complained to the National Telecommunications Commission about the high incidence of failure of calls and text messages from its Sun Cellular service to Smart Communication phones.

In a letter to the NTC dated March 9, Digitel said 89 percent of Sun Cellular calls to Smart phones failed to connect, and many text messages sent through Sun Cellular phones to Smart phones were not received.

It said during peak hours on March 1 and 6, almost 25 percent of text messages from Sun to Smart failed and 40 percent of messages from Smart to Sun did not go through.

"About 89 percent of outgoing calls from Sun to Smart were rejected by Smart due to 'unavailability of circuit/channel,'" said Digitel senior vice president William Pamintuan.

Sun Cellular is the trade name of Digitel Mobile Philippines Inc., a unit of Digitel.

Smart head of legal department Rogelio Quevedo said Sun Cellular should not blame other networks for its problems.

"Sun Cellular's network is really congested," he said. "Now they are blaming us for their own congestion."

Pamintuan said Digitel had asked Smart to activate five additional signaling links last Dec. 17 because of SMS congestion experienced at that time.

Smart has yet to act on the request, he said.

"These intermittent voice call and SMS links failure have been adversely affecting our network efficiency to the detriment and prejudice of our Sun Cellular subscribers," he said.

Immaterial what's the cut-off time, doon ako sa Network Operator na mataas and Call Completion Success Rate. In the first place hindi ko kailangan ang mahabang oras para makipag-usap sa fone as long as I can contact my friends/relative in a fastest way and deliver my message to them... the better for me. 15 or 30 minutes nga ang cut-off time mo..... kapag nag call retry ka naman 15 to 30 minutes bago ka naman maka-call set-up useless din. hehe....

It's material lalo na for casual calls, which is my primary use for Sun. Pag business or important calls I use my Globe. And hassle yung mag ttxt ka pa bago tumawag, you have to make it as simple as possible wag madaming busisi.

karamihan naman ng gagamit ng unlimited is yung mga talagang nagtetelebabad. kung tig 2-3 min lang ang calls mo, why ka pag mag avail ng unlimited? ako, most of my calls are less than 3 min. kaya hindi ako nag SUN dati, and hindi din ako mag aavail ng Smart or TM's unlimited.

    Hi boybi,

Cut off time has nothing to do with the unlimited call. Cutting off your call doesn't necessarily mean your call is limited. That is why you can do call retry kung mahaba-haba ang sasabihin mo sa kausap mo.

hehe.... so give him a customer satisfaction! huwag mo syang tipirin bro. kung alam mong importanteng tao ang kausap mo at mahaba-haba ang sasabihin mo, you can call him direct to his number and definitely no cut off will be experienced.

    hmmm...

Based on a test conducted by Piltel, Rogelio Quevedo, head of Piltel’s legal and carrier business group, said Sun Cellular has a CSSR of only 38%, which means that only 38 out of every 100 calls are successfully completed on the first attempt. Worse, he added, successful calls are automatically cut off by the Digitel switch after 15 minutes.

Your missing the point bro. Most of the people who purchased SUN sims use it for casual conversation so malaking bagay yung 10mins na yan and thats why you see lots of people having 2 cellphones = 1 for important calls and 1 for business.

And the Telecom War is on...
