Those who are going up Baguio think that Kennon is the shortest route to this montain city.

fortunately, it is (with paved roads and what have you) ..

Unfortunately, Big trucks are the number one users of the road..kawawa naman Kennon..kawawang mga motorista na gumagamit ng daan. They are at the mercy of these trucks (sinusundan mo habang paakyat ka).. I myself experienced this last week..

then another collegue came forward with horror stories of those big trucks..

When will we ever learn to enforce laws in this land!??

Bro, that's mainly the reason why I use the Marcos Highway in our bi-annual trek to Baguio even if it means an additional of 30minutes in our travel time....

I thought trucks and buses are prohibited from using Kennon Road.

I think they are banned but aside from trucks, minibuses also abound..

They contribute to the gradual degradation of the road. I don't know if Baguio visitors would be please to be following them.

They are supposed to use Marcos Highway which is fitted for them.

The thing is, sa kennon mismo may dalawang police outposts (Camp 7 and Camp8). Ano kaya ginagawa nila? *taka*

Even without the darn trucks and minibuses, the road conditions on Kennon are not worth the time saved, IMO. Kawawa lang sasakyan ko. Marcos lagi ang daan ko.

di ba na repave na ang kennon road? or nagkasira sira na naman ulit? the last time i went up to baguio maganda na ang kennon rd, but that was more than a year ago already.

kennon has been repaved again in many sections but many parts are still pothole-ridden. kennon will most probably be better paved before february for the expected influx of motorist during panagbenga and the summer season.

overtaking those trucks in kennon is not that hard, hanren. my only beef with them is that they are not supposed to be traversing that route as they cause the premature deterioration of the road's surface due to their presence (among others). the uphill drive is a bit technical but you can see the other corners from far off so you can see oncoming traffic.

i would take kennon over marcos highway anytime when i am in a van or suv. but it's hands down marcos for me when i am in a car or a motorcycle.

My Home town is baguio... but its been years since I last took kennon rd. naphobia na ako sa kennon. minsan kawawa yun car mo pag dun ka dumaan. Others are correct, trying to overtake on those blind narrow corners is suicide I had an unfortunate mishap overtaking a slow jeep trying to overtake a slow truck. In another event, there were small rocks falling from above!!! nakakatakot

I always take Marcos. its fun to drive there! with the cemented wide uphill sweeping corners! You also have a flyover and ala-Monaco-f1 tunnel pass hehehe...

Gone are days of road courtesy in kennon. I remember the good old days whenever you are following a slow moving vehicle which is a regularly user of Kennon, they will even wave you when its safe to overtake. Or yield to upcoming vehicles when on a narrow bend.

Now, ayaw na magpa overtake, ibibitin ka pa when you try to pass, kahit na they're very slow.

Then napansin ko dami na nakabuntot sa likod ko..others were trying to make their own pass pero haba kasi nung truck.. I felt obliged to make the first move to overtake kasi parang ako yung inaasahan nila na mag overtake.. when I finally did make the move..I stupidly did it in a blind curve sakto may kasalubong ako na puting vios.. close call pero pinagbigyan na lang ako nung vios..hindi nung truck.

it was a at least a timely move kasi milya milya na distance ko wala pa akong makitang kasunod..

Share mo naman ang reason/s for your preference.

When I was a bachelor kasi, and driving a car,- Kennon Rd. palagi ang daan ko. But now, with a family, and driving a van,- Marcos HW na (probably because it is safer and I am more patient now). TIA

it's all about the road surface, CVT.

vans/suvs/4X4s, with their relatively higher clearances and higher profile tires can take the potholes and rocks in kennon road a lot better than cars with lower profile tires. recently, i have been driving a mazda 3 with 17" rims and i wouldn't dare drive thru kennon in a spirited manner with it. in contrast, i almost always rip thru that road in my kia carnival - my kennonballer - vegetable trucks notwithstanding.

my marcosblaster is the vespa. nothing like a two-stroke retro scooter to lean thru those aforementioned sweeping corners in style. riding a two wheeler in kennon is such a pain because one has to avoid all the potholes and gravel in the rough sections.

Kaya nga may cash-este, checkpoint, hehe.

Hanren, ingat na lang when driving. When others tailgate or egg you to overtake (when you're not ready), just slow down and increase the gap with the vehicle infront ... let those behind you take the risk.

Thanks for that advise.

I didn't know there is a gasoline station in Rosario..baka yung sa Damortis na Petron..malapit sa bilihan ng murang daing

Shell station, along the national highway and near the junction with Kennon Road.

hoy niky, i still remember what you posted about baguio drivers on E150s sometime back!

btw, a kennonball run is always short and sweet! and p.s. too, i'd still pick a lynx rs over a mazda 3 anytime...
