    sa kakaalam ko:

    1. if you are a balikbayan (i.e. planning to settle in the philippines for good), you can bring in your used car for free

    2. if you just want to bring in a car (straight importation), you pay the sgs valuation or the purchase value of the car whichever is higher, plus 10% vat, customs duties and import taxes and another 10% vat on the duties. it will bring up the total price of your car by almost 100%. apparently the government policy here is to discourage importation of vehicles

grey market refers to legitimately branded vehicles that are not sold through local dealers but imported directly. but then again, this term is a bit muddled. a car imported through a local dealer (for example importing a nissan murano through nissan philippines or its authoried dealer) is not necesarily gray market. there are also warranty and service issues with gray market cars. i am not sure if all the local dealers will honor such warranties

what kind of car ba yan? lambo?

for importation and subsequent philippine registration of imported vehicles, check out this website: http://www.lto.gov.ph/mvreq10.html. it will provide you with all the possibilities of importing a vehicle and how to get this registered

for those who are curently using their vehicles and would like to bring them in, check out the SRRVisa at www.plra.gov.ph. here, you are allowed to bring in USD 7,000 worth of personal effects tax free. a used car with zero book value (and assuming that the sgs valuation is also low) may allow you to use this exemption. of course i am not aware if this particular provision has been tested or even applied. or if someone dared, hehehehe

hmmm, i could make some inquiries with some friends in customs about SRRVisa related importation of vehicles

From what I've experienced and talked to with a former car importer (got out cause of 1 bad non-paying client) it would be better to deal with the grey market importer instead of doing it yourself. The hassle and being known by Customs people isnt worth the trouble. Pay the premium and enjoy the ride.

hmmmm, there is another way of doing it kaya lang technical smuggling na, hehehehe

kung may kilala ka na mayari ng shipping line and if they are buying a vessel (a large roro preferably), bumili ka ng kotse tapos i sakay mo sa barko during its conduction trip to the philippines. then have the car declared as ship's gear, mwahahahaha!

i know that this was done. kailan ba naging ship's gear ang jetski? and cases of beer and other luxury goods? this was done sometime back

my lips are sealed ......... hehehehe
