    sa kakaalam ko:

    1. if you are a balikbayan (i.e. planning to settle in the philippines for good), you can bring in your used car for free

    2. if you just want to bring in a car (straight importation), you pay the sgs valuation or the purchase value of the car whichever is higher, plus 10% vat, customs duties and import taxes and another 10% vat on the duties. it will bring up the total price of your car by almost 100%. apparently the government policy here is to discourage importation of vehicles

grey market refers to legitimately branded vehicles that are not sold through local dealers but imported directly. but then again, this term is a bit muddled. a car imported through a local dealer (for example importing a nissan murano through nissan philippines or its authoried dealer) is not necesarily gray market. there are also warranty and service issues with gray market cars. i am not sure if all the local dealers will honor such warranties
