I own a pair of mid-cut Merrell hikers. Though I'm a hardcore Adidas customer, the Merrells are one of the best pairs I got to own. Sobrang lambot tsaka magaan, like a pair of basketball sneakers.
As creepy said, you don't have to spend 6k just for a good pair of Merrells. Mine cost 3,500, and those were waterproof, mind you. Served me well through numerous typhoons and floods.
Don't know how they perform though.Last edited by Bogeyman; March 6th, 2006 at 02:02 PM.

im surprised nike shoes lasts around 6 years, max life of nike shoes for me is around 3 years, guess it depends on your mileage
northface and merrel shoes are more on the heavy side since their design is more for trail use so you need all the support your feet can have, but if you're a long distance runner (15km or more) it'll be a big burdern maskina yung ounce difference sa weight, ive tried long distance running on nike, new balance, adidas and among the three new balance beats them all, most adventure racers swear by new balance din
although, Thumbie and crew of Team Merrel are regular first placers sa adventure racing ;) ....not sure if Thumbie uses merrel shoes though hehe

i have a pair of merrell hiking shoes as well and they're great for that purpose, but for everyday casual use, i highly recommend the new balance 991/992. they are the most comfortable shoes i've owned and very durable. i also like the fact that they come in 5 different widths, perfect for my very wide feet.

i am a shoe lover, i own several pair of adidas, reebok, nike (pinakamarami), BK,vans, new balance and one merell which is my favorite. isinasabak ko sa snow at sa putikan, kahit sa mainit na semento, masarap talaga isuot pero di ko alam na ganyan ang price nito sa atin.

Thanks for all the inputs.
Methinks the Battle of Carthage scene in Russel Crowe's Gladiator (yr. 2000) is a homage to that...
