So my 2yo eyeglass frame broke, right at the rim. Luckily i had a backup pair made.

Advisable bang mag flexible titanium? What's a good brand? i've seen some in Quiapo, but i'm suspicious about the price/quality.

Medyo mataas ang grado ko, so even with multi-layered lens, i have to get the beefier frames para kumapit sa lens.

Is there a military/tactical grade version of eyeframes? Most of what i see are basically bullet-proof sunglasses.

Lastly, yes, i am considering Lasik, but maybe a few more years down the road. i have a feeling i'll still wear glasses post-surgery ^_^

did it break because of wear and tear (old age)? did it break because of metal fatigue? na-bundol?
my titanium frames are still alive and use-able, after 19 years. medyo laspag na ang plating and plastic accessories. but the frame is still good.

yung sports goggles na pina-uso nina marlou at wilt.
    goggles more than eyeglasses.
but, they do look a bit funny worn on the street or office.

meron dati, yari sa carbon fiber yata.. you can pretzel it and it springs back to shape.

I have a different problem... I keep losing mine before they're even broken. ;)

I don't think we have eyeglass insurance here like in the States, do we?

i have kakilala. bili siya ng reading glasses sa divisoria by the dozen. she keeps losing them left and right.

bili po kayo ng eyeglass tali. sabit sa leeg kapag hindi nasa ilong..
or, you might go to a government hospital and look for the ophtha dept. there might be an optical branch there, selling at rock-bottom prices for the masses consulting there. i happened to go once, and at their price, i ordered two sets at once. not gucci-esque, but certainly use-able.

same here..... problem naman sa akin is i use two glasses. one for distance and one for reading. dont like the progressive type and the bifocal types eh... so sa akin, its either i lose the distance or i lose the reading before they are broken.

Im 20/20 for distance but +150 for reading. Been using an oakley frame for 3 years and have replaced the lense once due to scratches. Using the progressive+transition which is very practical for both work and home. The only problem is the extra monitor which requires me to tilt my head to get the right angle for reading. I got a stiffed neck once until I replaced the 2nd monitor with a bigger screen.

Practice makes perfect. Just give your eyes a rest once it feels uncomfortable. Once situation you should be careful of is going down a flight of stairs.

glass lenses are actually more scratch-resistant then the current plastic lenses.
but for issues of safety, i'd veer away from glass lenses because... they're glass. in the event of an "accident", lenses are cheap. eyes are not.

Yeah, with plastic most likely the whole lens just pops out when hit...you can still pop it back in, scratches and all.
    With glass, game over na

I change my glasses every 5 years or so. It's a good thing my grade doesn't go up because lenses are expensive. It stuck at 120 100 ata. I would die if I lost my glasses since I absolutely cannot drive without it. I buy from Almeda. They have good deals on frames.

Thanks. That's weird. Mine never get scratched or peeled.

I have at least 6 pairs of eyeglasses in various combinations/configurations,- transition, with shade-clip etc.

Not very particular about the frames, as I have only a couple which are branded... Whatever suits my fancy,- but they last a long time to me... I am relatively careful with my personal belongings...

My very bad astigmatism and my very bad eye-grade has resulted to the lenses being much more expensive than their frames.

But it has its advantages too,- I love to watch the Christmas lights at night, without eyeglasses,- akin to a psychedelic trip in bursting living colors. This is something surreal which our regular 20/20 bros/sis will never enjoy in their life....

Dunno, baka acidic yung pawis ko or something ^_^ Hindi naman ako sobrang burara sa salamin, though i usually wipe the lens with my shirt.

Try ko magpagawa sa optical shop sa mall next time, and see if their lens fare better.

    hah!
wiping the lenses with the shirt one is wearing, is a good way to scratch the lens.
pag natuyo ang pawis, ay may salt (asin!) na natitira. these are hard crystals, with sharp edges. very good at scratching softer lenses.
