they called Ratzinger daw "God's Rottweiler" and the "Panzer Cardinal" for his conservative stance on a lot of issues. that he was drafted into the German Army is indeed disturbing, but he was a cardinal and now he is Pope so i tend to give him the benefit of the doubt on this.

I think he could strike the fear in anyone who meets him for the first time. But people say ok naman daw sya.

the Prophesy of St. Malachy, if they were true, predicts the next Pope will be a Pope of Peace. Hopefully, by seeing the horrors of war up close, Ratzinger will indeed be a pontiff for peace. Hopefully, he will adopt the more liberal attitude of John Paul II when it comes to other religions.

sayang i would have wanted a more liberal Pope, and someone younger with more chika like Cardinal Tettamanzzi. I guess the Cardinals are thinking they want someone to continue with John Paul II's mission. and who better to accomplish that than JPII's right hand man.

Also, I guess the Cardinals think what the Church needs right now is not so much ultra-conservatism but a sort of "return to orthodoxy," to define itself in the new millenium and take a stand on certain controversial issues like marriage for priests, abortion, contraception, the "crackdown" on homo***ual priests, and women priests.

John Paul II has touched a lot of the faithful, Benedict XVI is there, i think, to keep them.

PS: if he comes to the Philippines, will he visit San Beda of the Benedictines, or UST, the only evangelical and pontifical university in Asia (according to their alumni hehehe)
