Why do we have taxes for our income and taxes for our spending (VAT)?

Why call your house and car assets when you do not earn from these and even spend too much for these?

Is there such a thing as unreal estate? Why call it real estate?

Why call cars automobiles when you do too much manual activity to make it run? Is manual mobiles invalid?
