i know theres already a thread about this but cant seem to find it anymore. kaya gawa ako bago, . . . sorry.
just wanna seek some ideas from tsikoteers from canada about what to expect.

what do i need to do (or learn)?
besides money and clothes, what else should i need to bring that will help us later on (and the likes)?

you can consult the International Organization for Migration (IOM). International NGO to na funded ng UN. They offer migration assistance for P10,000 lang. I should know because I worked there for a while. website is www.iom.int. address nila is sa citibank tower sa makati. kung gusto mo ng mas mahal go to www.go2canada.com. btw, 67 points na lang ang passing nila ngayon. dati kase 75

Learn how to drive here because it's a lot cheaper. Even if you don't have a car there, you'll have to drive sometime in the future.

When you buy clothes here, keep in mind it's a lot colder there than here. Don't buy your jackets and sweaters here, buy it over there. Believe me, sayang lang yan. If you're into tailor-made clothing, you better get them made while you're still here.

learn to do EVERYTHING yourself. i don't know what your life is like there, but in Canada or the US, sariling sikap lahat.

cooking, cleaning, laundry, even home and car maintenance - the more you know how to do, the better off you are. also, dapat resourceful ka rin, since walang ibang taong masasandalan (unless you have a rich family back home that can support you)

My wife and I contemplated on migrating to Canada too before... di lang namin tinuloy for some reasons.

Pero ina eye namin ang winnipeg, manitoba noon. Saan kang City/provice ba nagbabalak?

If you ever decide to migrate to Canada and you have relatives there, ito opinion ko lang don't expect na tutulong sila I mean your relatives, minsan ibang tao pa na di mo kilala ang tutulong sa iyo.
You have to do everything on your own doon walang maid, you have to cook, clean, do the laundry lahat and throwing the trash.

Another thing meron din silang Provincial Nomination kung saan mo gusto sa mga provinces ng Canada mag-settle balita ko ata mas-mababa ang points doon good luck sa iyo.

Nagbalak na din kami ng misis ko to migrate sa Canada dhil nandoon na ang brother nya!

Na-brainwash ng byenan ko ang misis ko dahil ang mga Chinese daw ay nagkakandarapang pumunta dito sa Pinas while tayong mga Pinoy ay nagkakandarapa sa pagpunta sa Canada. Tapos wla namang trabaho na mapapasukan doon.... Ang pera daw ay nandito sa Pinas...

There is no place like home pa rin! Saan ka pa? dito sa Pinas nga naman pa-drive drive lang, badminton after office hour at tennis during weekends.... sa Canada mukhang trabaho lang ang iintindihin mo!(kung maswerte ka) mas mahirap ang buhay doon!

Centum - I don't think so. Almost all my relatives migrated to Canada. They're all doing well. The only people that are doing well here sa pinas are the ones with wealthy parents. If you're poor here, you're poor for life. If you're poor in Canada, the government will pay your way through college (grants, scholarships, and deferred loans).

Absolutely true, nung nagmigrate din ako punta ng US, pinsang buo ko hindi man lang nagpakita kahit anino, kesyo busy daw siya o hindi niya alam yung place ko, which is absolutely ridiculous, isang taon na siya dito at meron ng stable na job meron na ring tsikot, at ang layo ko sa kanya less than 7 (seven)miles.

Tapos nung ok na ako nakapag adjust na tatawag tawag magkita daw kami, What for? homesick ba siya, leche problema na niya yun, kanya kanya na lang kami.

Mabuti pa yung ibang Pinoy na di mo kamaganak sila yung talagang tumulong at ang turing sa yo parang kapamilya.

Ok lang mag migrate spending power mo matindi kaagad compared sa atin kayod kalabaw ka na sa katratrabaho pambili lang ng cellphone o PS2 o XBOX o tv na maganda e PAGIIPUNAN pa, dito isang araw na sweldo (OT) sobra sobra pang pambili.

At yung quality of life iba talaga, kung sa Pinas pangarap na lang yung magkaroon ng MB, BMW, Lexus o Volvo, dito kayang kaya basta masipag ka lang.

my main concern why i want to migrate,
i want a better future for my kids,
and a gov't that i can rely and depend on.

i really dont mind starting all over again, because i know it'll be worth it.

yeah how true... sinubukan ng family namin(back in the 80's) magmigrate sa US. Mismong mga kapatid ng father ko did'nt help us financially when we needed it. eh 5 pa sila magkakapatid nun dun... so we had to go back here in the phils. yun mga kapatid ng mother ko tinulungan nila uli kami sa pinas kase naubos resources namin nun sa US.

pero pansin ko sa US, my mother and father worked almost 24x7. sometimes 2-3 jobs... wala na time sa family. and as a kid(mga grade 2 ako nun), I was really forced to do it all on my own. bahala ako sa breakfast, sa pagsakay sa Bus, sa studies... minsan iipunin ko pa yun 25 cents na bus fare ko and walked home para at the end of the week may pambili ako ng G.I. Joe figurines hehehe. and as a kid, malakas yun discrimination sa kin as a filipino. dapat talaga patunayan ko sa mga puti sarili mo.

even today, now that I have work. when i go back to the US for business trips... minsan may discrimination parin. sa desk clerk na lang sa ticket booth, asumption kaagad sa kin economy at pinagbabayad na ako sa mga hand carry ko... but when they check my ticket business class pala. sa inpection sa airport halata talaga... pero it has improved and not as apparent as before.

i think ok talaga support ng government ng canada. but also, malaki din tax nila.

walang kwenta talaga gov't ng phils. its like every man for himself hehehe and everyone position themselves. palakasan sila sa presidente

to guys whove been to aust and canada or those with relatives living in these countires? how do these countries (au & nz) fare in comparison to Canada, standard of living wise and syempre availability ng jobs - saan ba mas madali pumunta?

I couldn't agree more with you jolog1. Kung masuerte lang ba ako kagaya ng ibang anak mayaman or can afford na parents, why did I have to move out of the Phils? Para sa mayayaman, jan na lang kayo sa Pinas. Sa mahihirap, kailangan namin umalis ng Pinas.

Saka kung lilipat ka sa ibang bansa sa mga kamag-anak, dapat magaling ka makisama. Hindi yung tipong ikaw pa ang dapat suyuin at iwan mo na ang pride mo sa Pinas.

Cardo818, mahirap talaga buhay noong 80's dito sa US, pero the 24x7, 2-3 jobs does not exist anymore. Unless you're a non-skilled worker supporting a family of 10 people in Pinas, then you would need 3 jobs. It's still true kung wala kang working permit sa US. I moved to the US back in 1992 with nanay and she only had one job 9am-5pm but we were able to survive.

Redisel buti na lang di ka napakita sa Pinsan mo, kasi ang ibang Filipino sa States and Canada pero di naman lahat naging mayabang na porket citizen na sila or greencard holders may ipinagmamalaki na, kungbaga hypocrito na eh plastic. Misan pa nga lolokohin ka pa ng kamag-anak mo. When I was in the states halos di ako pinapansin ng Uncle ko, sabi ko tuloy kung ganito lang naman eh kanya-kanya na lang why bother calling him leche siya bakit sino ba siya mukang pera pa. Siguro dala na rin yan ng environment you have to be independent, ang masama nito family kayo eh dapat natutulungan kaso hindi eh kanya-kanya na.

Why some people want to migrate to Canada, well siguro first a good education for their children, may ambition din sila second better pay. Third a better environment good governance, it's their choice bakit natin sila pipilitin mag-stay dito, I can't blame people like them kasi they want a better life a better future all I can say to these people migrating to Canada and other countries good luck and god bless I hope they make it.

The thing with Canada and US is the government got your back. The government don't want you to fail because if you fail, you end up being a liability to them. They have to pay you welfare and medical care, you can't pay taxes, statistics says you will also commit a crime. If you can't afford college, they'll send you to college through grants, loans, and deferred loans (loans with no interest until you graduate). Government college will give you quality 2 year degree that is not expensive. Employment discrimination is illegal there and unlike in pinas, the law is uphold and enforced there. ACLU and NAACP got you back.

Between Canada and US, Canadians got the most government support but they hit you with taxes.... something pinoys are not used to paying.

Kung tamad ka, hindi sanay magtrabaho ng 8 hours a day eh huwag ka nang pumunta. Yung isang kakilala ko nagtrabaho sa Wendys, employee lang. She worked her butt off for 2 years pagtapos inoffer na siya ng assistant manager position. Hard work pays off over there, hindi tulad sa pinas... kung sino kilala mo that counts.
