those who made it in the tech boom of the 90's, (google, hotmail, youtube, etc.), how do you think they compare with those that are already so rich before them? they will come a time when they'll be bought by bigger companies. microsoft have already bought hotmail. what happened to the original owner of hotmail? he got richer by USD300M+? the last time i heard, he started another tech co. but i don't think it is doing as good as his hotmail. who benefitted from this? microsoft.

it is the same as here in the phils., when a big co. smells a potential in another business, they will either buy that business, or setup a similar one that will directly compete with that business. how can you compete with that?

kung yun right palm mo yun first most visible upper line nag continue sa back hand mo, then you will become rich.

tapos yun third most visible line, hindi putol sa gitna. than ma-eenjoy mo wealth mo

My cousin started out very poor.

He's a son of a Farmer (an uncle, my mother's brother) in Nueva Ecija.

He stayed in our area (Quezon City) while he was studying Accountancy in PSBA QC (Public School Beside Ateneo, he jokes) eating only fried eggs most of the time.

He passed CPA boards, worked as an accountant in Makati with SanMig, PAL, ABSCBN as some of his clients. He slowly planned his way out of the rat race. He built a rural bank and a chain of pawnshops.

He's very rich now. Helping all his siblings. Changing cars every year, giving them away to kins. Most of his cars are German Cars and some SUVs from US. Not sure if he has a jap car but i haven't noticed any in his very big garage.

One time, i overheard a neighbor of his ask, how do you count all your money (in Filipino). I have employees who does the counting he jokingly answered.

He himself still plants Onions and Garlic when he's not that busy.

hindi naman applicable ang business setting ng dot coms, bill gates, dell, j.k. rowling dito sa'tin.

business in the Phils. is 50% Marketing, 50% Protecting.

so skills, creativity, passion applicable lang yan 100% kung professionals din ang citizenry ng isang bansa.

like I said before, kung magaling ka sa school dati, and you can make more money than everybody does. yun mga hindi magaling andyan pa din, and they usually join "squeeze" groups like the govt. agencies, politics, P.R. agencies, law firms, law enforcement agencies, bldg. administration etc...

there are only two types of person in the Philippines: the creative talented and the creative untalented. the talented use their creativity to make money independently, while the untalented use their creativity to squeeze money from the talented, hence dependent sila.

which one are you? you'll become rich either way.

Iba iba kasi definition natin sa rich.

For me, rich is big, continuous, sustainable cash flow. Month after month, year after year. Regardless if good or bad economy.

One day millionaire is not rich.

Like rich is not having $1,000,000. Rich is making $1,000,000 a month.

Boybi is right. So what if someone buys ur business. Ur the one now stuck with just money. While the buyer bought an income generator.

The seller now has to figure out how to make that money make more money. If not, he will just use it up.

The buyer's investment will pay for itself and will generate continuous income.

Use your money wisely. Kung di ka marunong maghandle ng cash, laging one-day millionaire tayo haha.

Maginvest kayo sa time deposit, mutual bonds and stocks.

i can relate to this one.

a lot of us try to save money. for example, (1) a person buys a Hyundai and another buys a Toyota. (2) a couple book into a 3-star hotel in Hongkong and another couple book into a hostel. (3) a thrifty person settles for a McDo dinner instead of a fine dining experience in Hongkong.

kung meron ka naman pambili ng toyota, pambook sa 3-star hotel, and pang fine dining cash on hand, tapos you still opted for something less ...

then the money you saved should have worked for you in another venture. kung nasa bangko lang o tinago mo lang sa wallet mo. then the opportunity is lost pa din. hence, you will never become rich kahit na ikaw na ang pinakamatipid, pinaka-efficient, pinaka-magaling mag-compute na tao sa buong mundo.

Even multi million peso lottery winners end up back to zero a few months or a few years after they win.

there were at least two lotto winners here in our place (minimum of P20M) that became poorer than before they won the lottery in just less than 5 years.

20M may seem like a lot of money pero madali maubos yan.

    They shouldnt have touched it.

If they put the 20M in something that will make it earn 10% per annum, that's 2M a year, or 166,666 a month. That would be more than enough for the average pinoy household + a few extended family members.

    kahit 5 percent p.a. lang, that's still 83,333 a month.

But nooooo... they had to spend the motherload.

Agree ako doon sa income over cash/asset -- the best use of cash/asset is to make more cash! The minute you spend it, it just gives you temporary satisfaction anyway -- pero siyempre konting balance. Dami kong kilalang mayaman na sooobrang kurips it's already embarrassing.

Agree din ako dun sa marketing and protection with 1 proviso -- I'd change the marketing to cash (which you need for marketing anyway) and I'd add motivation/determination. Minsan kasi nagsa-cycle din -- kung spoiled druggies yung mga anak nung mayaman at walang motivation/determination kumita, ubos din agad in 1 generation yung kayamanan according to the rule above.

That's about it. Contentment is enough for me. I could work even harder to earn a bit more money. But, I'm happy where I'm at.

We have a roof over our heads. There's food on the table. My wife and kid are happy. Got some savings. My health is still great.

More money only means more bills, I say....
