have you guys heard of the gospel of st. thomas? this is suppose to be the 5th gospel, discovered in some scrolls found in the last century but was dismissed by the church as heresy. why was it proclaimed a heresy by the catholic churches? because it basically tells people that the real church does not reside in any building or institution but in the hearts of men. if this belief spreads then mawawala ang negosyo ng simbahan, catholic or otherwise!

i have had this belief for a long time and was really quite happy to find out that there exists a 5th gospel. even though i still go to mass every sunday. believing in the gospel of st. thomas has not diminished my adherence to the catholic "church" in any way. sabi nga dun sa gospel, the church resides in the hearts of men so if going to mass in a "church" (meaning the building) as i knew it from childhood helps maintains that faith then why not di ba. besides i want to allow my children the choice what to believe in and i can not deny that to them.

try looking for the movie "Stigmata", supposedly based on a true story about a woman "possesed" by Jesus (the church's definition of "stigmata" is a person who suffers the wounds of Christ, or marks resembling the wounds on the crucified body of Christ ). or just google search "gospel of st. thomas".

have thought of this so many times already. well ito lang masasabi ko think of Africa. particularly the missions sent there. and you'll know how important it is for a church or Vatican for that matter, to have a physical existence in this world.

it's like freedom, we can't touch it, we can't see it, it's inside the hearts of men, but it too, needs to be physically represented like monuments, plaques and statues.

Just look at the Philippines? How many TV Stations owned by religious leaders... ooops... este, groups pala... they're just 'holding' it for their members...

And here, we're supposed to be a poor country.

But the business of religion really exploded in the 80's, with powerful televangelists raking in millions (dollars, ha... not pesos) in pledges and the like. I think there was a resurgence in the Catholic Church's attendance when these guys were proven fakes and phonies. (Except for good ol' Pat Robertson... )

That's why I don't believe in any Church institutions... (aaaaand... the Bible is an institution) as anything can be corrupted by selfish human interests... and with over two thousand years of history, 'translation' and transcription by the 'Church', the Bible has had more chances at being corrupted than any other Christian institution.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Nakakatakot lang baka maisip ni ate glo na gumawa na batas na *shivers* infallability katulad ng sa pope...

Back to topic...IMHO, people should not interpret the bible word-by-word and try to apply it in modern times...we should not forget that NOBODY writes things in their books that can destroy them right? But is it possible that the bible is perfect? The bible is just a collection of books written by people...how holy they may be, they are still prone to mistakes. They can also tend to deviate a little from the truth to protect some people. And the said books are written originally in Hebrew(?) and before we can read it in present-day English, of course in 2000 years it has been translated many times already. Are we sure that the translations are 100% perfect? I don't think so. Many religions (or sects) of Christianity from different versions of the bible and different translations/interpretations. How can we say which one is 100% correct? It depends on the reader on how can we translate the verses. Just like in a comedy show a few years back, people can apply the verses in the bible any way they like. So why should we believe one? Maybe that is why God gave us the capability to think and use our common sense to know what is right or wrong. People must not blindly follow the words of some pastor, preacher or any other MAN pretending that his words are the words of God. Many people are deceived because of religion and often taken advantage of. Again, this is only MHO.

Contrary to what some people claim here, if God showed even just one single dramatic miracle today (ex. a burning, talking bush) today in modern times, there will be hundreds upon thousands (if not millions) of instant believers or converts.

Hmmm... ghostbusters? Depends, if it isn't life-threatening, I'll observe it and try to find out what it is... if it is, then I'll likely do one of the following:

    1. Possession: Lie the person flat on their back, try to keep them from swallowing their tounge... a frequent problem with epileptic attacks. Call a doctor.

    2. Poltergeist: Call the spirit questors, offer to sell my story for a couple of thousand bucks. Take a few pics with my cameraphone and post them on the internet where people can declare them fake and photoshopped.

    3. Uncontrollable Bleeding: Go to a hospital, duh... must be my blood pressure.

how about the delay of WW3? to me I consider that a miracle. if not for Gods and religions overpowering the spiritual aspect of the people's mind, matagal na tayo lahat ulit nagbanatan.

on the other hand, however, kung lahat tayo sa mundo pagano like some communists who don't believe in a god, pagano mula bata hanggang paglaki. somebody in the higher ups dictating this is moral this is not. palagay ko ang susunod na iisipin ng pagano, sino ka ba para sabihin kung ano mali at tama at malamang gyerahin muna nya boss nya bago kalaban? whereas, a presence of a supreme being telling what's right and what's wrong will do great wonders.

but what if it is life-threatening, and you have the vaguest idea what's happening around you and no time to figure out (coz it's matter of life or death)? or how about this movie "Bull Durham", wherein there is Voodoo Baseball player who worships dolls. tapos nun sumakay sila sa substandard na eroplano to go to a game, eh mintik-mintikan na bumagsak bec. of the weather. the baseball player made a sign of the cross during that onslaught.

He doesnt need to do that to us MERE humans.HE is God.we are JUST humans.sino tayo para humingi ng isang milagro para lang mapatunayan na nanjan nga siya?

in a Christian point of view...we have NO right to ask if He is real. No right to ask for anything to prove His presence. we are just MERE humans and nothing more.

why ask for miracles when we are the greatest proof of God's existence?

the thing i think boils down to one simple question: if there is no God then what are we? otherwise let us all be resigned to becoming nothing but degraded molecules of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen when we die di ba.

Not everything in the Bible is true...
