Rep. Wahab Akbar dies in hospital after Batasan blast

Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar died after sustaining severe injuries from an explosion that rocked the Batasan Pambansa complex in Quezon City, past 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Akbar was the second fatality in the bloody blast that also hurt at least nine others including Gabriela party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan and Negros Oriental Rep. Pryde Henry Teves. The first fatality was identified as Marcial Talbo, driver of Ilagan.

The congressman was rushed to the Far Eastern University in Fairview, Quezon City after suffering complete fracture on his right leg. Radio dzBB said Akbar's chief of staff confirmed the congressman's death. He died about 10:25 p.m. Akbar will be flown to Basilan Wednesday morning, and will be buried within 24 hours.

The report said Sandra Cam was talking to Akbar on the phone minutes before the blast. Cam told dzBB that Akbar was on his way out of the House, and was supposed to board his car when the explosion took place.

Akbar was born on April 16, 1960 in Lantawan, Basilan. A native of the province, he was elected governor in 1998 and was reelected to the same position in 2001.

Jesus Dureza, government peace adviser, expressed his sadness over the death of Akbar in the blast, which he called an "act of terrorism."

"I grieve for the loss of a friend and a leader. A life taken by an act of madness must be condemned and hope it will wake up some people to come together against those who don't go for normal procedures," Dureza said in a text message. - GMANews.TV

was passing by sandigan enroute to Batasan right after the explosion. andaming tao.. grabe na traffic. at first akala ko major accident sa kalye sa dinami-dami ng tao nakapaligid.

it was only until I turned on the TV (sa house ng girl ko) when I saw that it was a bomb that exploded.

eh dadaan uli ako dun pauwi. so I decided to make haste. lo and behold, pagdating ko sa Batasan, road's closed. rerouting in progress. patay.. sumabay pa sa truck ban. *sigh* had to inch my way through Litex going bumper to bumper with trucks of all sizes.

PNP: Remote-controlled bomb used in blast.

A bomb detonated by remote control may have been used in the blast that killed Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar and another person Tuesday night at the Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City.

"There’s a possibility but we are not certain about that yet because we are scouring the area to find out kung part of that IED to be certain about everything," said Director Geary Barias of the National Capital Region Police Office.

Aba eh, siguraduhin muna nila, baka bukas eh, bawiin din nila agad ito.

di ko alam kung matutuwa ako o hindi.

sounds like a wake up call to them.

let's just wait for another week or two for the clear finding of the cause.
magsasalita nanaman kasi sila ng kung anu anong cause, hindi naman sigurado.

di pa ata tapos un sa glorietta, may kaboom story nanaman!

According to unverified reports, the bomb was planted in the motorcycle located near the entrance of the South wing Batasan bldg and near the van of Cong. Akbar.

Personally, I don't believe it's got something to do with the allegedly death threat on Cong. Akbar's life. Why the hell would the bomber plant it in the motorcycle when he can plant it under Cong. Akbar's vehicle? Or perhaps use Cal 45 and just pop them on Cong. Akbar?

Good timing since tomorrow would be Among Ed's appearance in the senate and the deliberation on the impeachment case against PGMA in Congress.

Probably destablizers are at fault or.....
