mamya nyan may napikon buhusan kayo ng gasolina saka sindihan kayo dyan![]()
ang alam kong cause ng explosion madalas is static electricity.. kaya sa pinas bihira kasi we rarely get off our vehicle kasi may mga attendants naman. sa US madalas mangyari yan kasi doon self service sila eh.

Engine off.
The phone I just keep in the closed cabin away from the fumes. Though I don't really believe in that phone explosion thingie.

Sa petron hindi gaano silang strict dito sa cebu.. pero sa shell strict talaga "sir safety precautions lng po" tapos sabay point du-on sa sign board na off engine, cellphone , no smoking.. ginawa ko din un kasi hindi nman hustle yun eh.. hustle lng if may something wrong sa engine mo at hindi na mag start kpag na turn off na (hehehe).. ewan ko lang sa caltex.. di ko kasi gusto pa fuel dun..
basta ako turn off engine at saka cellphone when refuelling.. (para safety baka ma barb-q pa! waaaa)
yung pag turn off ng engine e nung sinaunang panahon pa na patakaran yan kaya talagang dapat sinusunod. and i do follow it. hassle lang sya pag tipong 100 lng ang papagas ko hehe. mabilis lang kasi ang paglagay ng 3 liters e kaya mas magastos sa gas ang pag start uli kesa yung pag idle. hehehe. sa cellfone, di ako naniniwala dun. di ko pinapatay.
I fill up at one Shell station only and one time the attendant mentioned regarding the celfone policy by pointing at the sign (turn off celfones when filling up). Basically I told her (rather strongly) that there is no documented evidence of a properly working celfone causing a gas station fire. The celfone causing a gas station fire is an emailed myth taken by stupid senators & congressmen as the truth. The fact that you can toss a ringing celfone into your gasoline tank without causing a fire (much less, an explosion) is more than enough proof against the myth. If there was any truth in the myth, she was welcome to present the documentation of such an incident to me. After that, no one at the gas station bothered me regarding the celfone policy.

ako, yes i do turnoff the engine. but i don't turn-off the cellphone, i just don't use it to call/text while filling up..
Hhmmm, most of the time my engine is running when filling-up. It's a diesel engine by the way. I don't think it will explode when filling it up.
BTW, it this related to the myth flaming fart?

btw... in racing:
do they turn off the engine when filling-up race cars?
a few pitcrew members are equipped with radios... don't they also emit "deadly" fire-causing radio waves?
the number of people being killed / injured by gasoline station fire accidents are few compared to other more "bigger" issues - for example, cigarette smoking. smoking related diseases kill over 20 million people a year.Originally Posted by larshell
or heck... even just firecrackers! hundreds are being maimed every year in the Philippines.
The threat of celfones causing gas station fires is simply overblown mostly by ignorance. Until gas stations start blowing up due to properly operating celfones, this is simply a untrue myth.
I don't turn my phone off when i'm filling up, yet the Nokia manual does warn the user of celphone usage in gas stations. I wonder if that's backed up by research.
well... they don't gain or lose anything if they put it in there.Originally Posted by cumbersome
much like the following "stupid" warning signs:
On a lawnmower I had was a big label which read:
"WARNING WHEN MOTOR IS RUNNING- THE BLADE IS TURNING!"
We once bought a grocery store pizza and the instruction were on the bottom, so we turned it upside down to see how long to cook it etc., and low and behold the first instruction was DO NOT TURN UPSIDE DOWN!
Warning on a curling iron: Do Not Insert Curling Iron Into Any Bodily Orifice…
My bathroom has inadequate ventilation and therefore, develops mold spots in the lower corners. I attempted to purchase a cleaner specifically designed to remove bathroom mold deposits. The directions on the product label stated, "Only use in well ventilated areas."
Seen on the bottom of a Coca-Cola bottle: "Do not open here."
On a bottle of spray paint: "Do not spray in your face."

Hahaha. Yeah. Probably more of a legal consideration than a scientific one. Hehe.Originally Posted by mazdamazda

Marami ng casualties inside gas station, 10% concerns wd fire. What we are trying is to lessen the risk of injury and life loss and property loss.
Siguro its more common here in the US na self-service mostly ang gas stations. Lalo na sa lugar na ang humidity mababa (dry ie: Nevada, Arizona etc) electronic devices or even your own clothing could create static electricity spark na mag-ignite ng gas fumes while refueling. Anyway its just an ounce of prevention, for in the first place sasakyan mo ang unang masunog kung mamalasin. (suwerte ka if u have a diesel)
