Pede pa rin plastic sa QC though may bayad nga lang (2 petot daw), yung mga wet products like meat, fish and poultry eh plastic pa rin pero yung walang hawakan, you still need those eco bags and bayong.

So it would help if you have one of those eco bags na foldable as big as a wallet at lagi mo dala.

I'm fine with banning plastic spoon & forks -- if ever they plan to. I'm used to using the metal spoons on fastfood/restaurants anyway.

Nakaka-tamad kasi himayin ng manok kapag gamit mo plastic spoon & fork, parang ang dali masira. For kids, just bring their own set of utensils.

Dati binebenta nila yun for 10 pesos each, eh.

paper or plastic, proper disposal is the key to having a free-flowing drainage

Mas tagal kasi yata mag decompose yung plastic compared to paper. But i might be wrong.

If your trash is plastic or paper, it will still block the drains. It will still fill the landfills. The solution is garbage reduction.

Giving an incentive for people to either re-use or recycle their old or used stuff is better than banning something outright. Plastic bags is not the problem. The problem is the people using them.

Frankly using paper bags has its own issues.
    - making paper creates 7 to 10 times more pollution in our waters than making the same number of plastic bags.
    - paper bags are heavier and takes more space than the same number of plastic bags. This requires more fuel/energy to transport them around the city to the end users.
    - paper bags are more often NOT re-used because they tend to get ripped or damaged on first use.
    - paper bags are not certified food grade. There is not certified paper bags for food.
    - plastic bags can be recycled or re-used many times over.

Sabi ng bonchon, babayaran daw plastic bag, nainis yun mama umalis, eh mga 1K sana yun bill Nya. Eh sa KFc, may paper bag sila.

Actually Mayor Bautista did the right move on the plastics ban by not banning plastic bags outright. He gave the consumers the choice to use plastic or paper bags. The only issue with many consumers during the first weekend of the implementation was the lack of information to the proper people to help guide them through the new regulations.

    Shopping Bags: paper vs plastic

Just to be honest, I hate paper shopping bags. Often times, they have no proper handles to hold on to so you end up having to use one or both hands to carry the bag. And even the ones with paper handles, they tend to rip or come off after a few minutes of walking around with it. And the chances of it ripping open is probably greater than 1 in 10. Very inconvenient and ends up being used once or at most twice before being thrown in the garbage.

Plastic bags is a godsend. It enables me to carry more than one piece of shopping around with me the whole day without any issue of ripping open or being awkward to handle. I almost always re-use my plastic bags until they are ripped or full of holes. It is a modern convenience that is cheap and simple to use.

So paper versus plastic. Kinda ironic that in trying to be green and environmental with pushing for paper shopping bags, it ends up cutting down more and more trees faster and faster to feed the increasing demand for paper.

So what is your say on this issue?

i actually prefer paper over plastic but that was when i was in the states, their plastic are thick and have it's own handle. unlike the ones they give out here in the philippines imagine at 7/11 2 cans of cold coke na punit na agad yung paper bag na binigay sa akin yung sa states kahit 1 case ng beer ang nilalagay ko di na pupunit. i seriously wish they could provide better paper bags so i could avoid plastic bags.

the chopping down more trees is a tired, old argument and not really valid anymore. the shopping bag paper comes from recycled paper or tree factories. whereas plastic bags will always be bad for the environment. even plastic bags that are supposed to be biodegradable takes a very long time to break down.

^ this alone is all the reason you need to use paper bags.

for people hating the paper bags, why not just get the reusable grocery bags, that's less wasteful and even more environment friendly.

Recycled paper pulp has shorter fibers which results in inferior quality paper. Also recycled pulp requires more bleaching.

And ironic thing, we now IMPORT the paper to make paper shopping bags.

I can hardly imagine trying to shop a week or two worth of grocery using paper bags their use in some of the local supermarkets Then having to commute home. Paper bags is a great thing,... if you have a car to drive home with your shopping.

Two things that could've been better:

    1. Putting string handles on the paper bags to make it easier to carry.

    2. Giving tax incentives to store owners who use paper bags instead of having them charge 2 Pesos to customers for plastic bags.
