Also, grabe ang exhaust smoke seeping into the passenger area mga jeep, wouldn't be surprised if most drivers end up having brain and respiratory failures.

jeepneys are junk and rubbish when you are inside your brand new airconditioned sedan or suv. to the riding public it is a work of art, a proof of filipino "can do".

i guess it all it all depends on where at you are looking from.
sorry but i disagree. they are discourteous most of the time, stopping in the middle of road waiting for passengers, swerving without looking knowing that private vehicles will give way since they dont want their precious shiny vehicles damaged.

it is not a work of art, to the riding public, they dont care whether your jeep is stainless or as colorful as a rainbow just as long as it gets them from point A to B, can you still notice anyone admiring the designs of PUJs?

yes its a proof of filipino "can do" pero ganun naman talaga tayo eh basta umaandar maskina walang quality and safety ayus na, we have no sense of commitment in doing the best we can

totally abolishing PUJs is not the solution since rail transits and taxis can only get you as far. the solution is to regulate their numbers, there's only an adequate number of jeeps that can optimumly transport commuters to minimize waiting time both for the commuters and the PUJs, of course this is a big study, this entails rescheduling of routes, and of course PUJ drivers are expected to follow their schedules..... tama na wishful thinking ku

    Just an observation:

    1. Operating a jeepney, especially under a franchise is not a right but a merely privilege that the state grants. The state can very easily revoke the franchises of these jeepney operators if it wanted to.

    2. When PUV operators apply for a franchise, they generally represent themselves as having the financial capability of providing a safe and comfortable means of mass transportation to the public in the routes being applied for. I guess that the LTFRB does not consider the financial capability part.

    3. Further to No. 2 above, if the operators have the financial capability to operate the jeepney, then operating a PUV should not be their only means of livelihood. I, for one, refuse to accept that we cannot effect change in the public transport sector merely because these people can't make a living doing something else.

Jeepneys are ok with me.

Unlike here in Manila, jeepney drivers in the provinces are very courteous.

ok ang jeep the innovation of jeepney with aircon is good, however such attitude that overdoing or over rating something is not good, mas ok if the govt will eliminate or scrap unefficient puv, even private vehicles, yun tipong patapon na

ok kung gayahin sa taiwan or japan ,where efficient light way transit exist and bus with proper bus stop

Aesthetically, I think old Jeepneys looked much better than the new ones, there were still a few of them running around in the early 90's.

PS: the black car in the background appears to be a '51 Buick Roadmaster.

PS: the car on the left is a 1963 Plymouth Valiant the van on the right side of the photo is an early 70's VW Type2 Kombi aka "Bus".

i'm part of the jeepney riding public. ako mismo, i wish there was a more orderly, disciplined system in effect -- yes, even if it means walking a bit farther to designated sakayans, even if it means i have to pay a little more to not have carcinogenic smoke blown in my face.

and boy, the way *some* jeepney drivers drive...you'd think somebody stuck a lit cigar up their *$$.

But of course , but we could have brought this " ingenuity " to the next level looooong time ago. Talking about progress, you know, but right now it's more of a symbol of a third world country. Don't get me wrong , without this antiques on Recto /divisoria/Quiapo maybe i wasn't able to get my diploma and could have been in a different set up, but for holy diesel's sake the govt should start phasing them out and came up with modern mass transport. Guys, can you imagine living with this thing for another century while the rest of the world probably has hybrids, electric cars...so what's next ? hybrid jeepney

The Japanese copied jeeps c/o Mitsubishi Willys. They improved and develop it to the Pajeros of today. We had Sarao and Francisco Motors copy them too, but they still make them the way they use too...

Is Jeepney still something to be proud of?
