desalination is more expensive than what we are used to paying for our water now.
but like oil, eventually the question won't be "how much?" but "is it available?".
    my opinion.

^will people be willing to pay more for desalinated water or simply complain more?

Desalination isn't cheap as looking around to see abundance of bodies of sea water. First you have to remove the salt, then the desalinated water needs to be purified if the water grade to be produced is potable.

After purification then distribution comes to play. Salt corrodes metal pipes, otherwise it will destroy the existing pipe system (water concessionaire and household). So its imperative that the desalination process is impeccable, no trace of salt should escape the desalination process

Theres also the storage facility, water reservoir like a natural lake or man made dams or tanks to hold those desalinated water before consumed by consumers

Lets say meron 30 empleyado pataas. Lakas kaya consumo nun sa tubig kaka-ihi+ebak. Problem solve yan yung tapon ni washing machine ipambuhos.

Sorry but I need to correct some misconceptions here.

    1. Modern r.o. desal plants actually produce water with almost zero salt and mineral content, to levels of only 2-3 ppm. That salt level is much lower than what you will get from water from rivers, lakes and dams.

    2. Because of the condition in 1 above it is not the amount of salt that corrodes the steel pipes but the lack of minerals. The water becomes corrosive and eats the steel. To prevent this from happening (and to save billions of dollars from having to replace all those pipes in the distribution system) minerals are then added to the water by passing the water through a mineralizing bed. Simply, this bed is a pool filled with various typea of gravel that dissolve as the water passes through. If after passing through the mineralizing bed the water is still not within the allowable ph, a neutralizing chemical is further added to the water.

Yung concept na water from reverse osmosis has high salt content is so outdated, true in the 80s and maybe 90s but no longer true in 2019. R.O. produces water good enough to put in car batteries, which as we car buffs know require distilled water.

tingin ko this water crisis isn't going away

delayed ang rainy season and madami dami bagyo ang kailangan para mapuno uli ang mga dam

kung hindi nangyari yan itong 2nd half of the year patay na

kailangan mag isip at mag action na ang gobyerno hanap ng ibang water source

need to consider desalination among other options

    pa-tagong lilipat sa laguna area...
...but will continue posting as if he (s)he were still in the true qc...
    heh heh.

    but seriously,
    we're all in this mess.

but what is the ultimate cause of water and electricity shortage?
    ...there's too many users...
    population...
and how are we addressing it?
