most of the idioms naman like "heaven sent" need no explanation cguro. stuff like "kick the bucket" eh galing pa cguro sa old english and may historical references kaya di ko alam kung bakit it refers to dying.
could you specify which ones you don't know the meaning of? I'm sure the guys here would gladly help you out. Me, my favorite is "spanking the monkey".
