A friend of mine got a job offer from the same company I work with. She got a better deal than me (she was referred by one of our managers. it turned out that they were colleagues from a company they worked with). I am happy for her of course pero what boggles me is the way she was screened. She had no difficulty whatsoever in the technical interviews and other interviews!!!! She never negotiated with the compensation offer kasi she got more than what she asked for (ako grabe ang negotiation na ginawa ko). Sa technical skills at knowlege were par naman.

Anyway kung sa inyo mangyari ito ano mararamdaman ninyo???? Me, I got dissappointed with myself. I know I should have bargained for more nung time na nakikipag-negotiate sa akin ang company pero I was soft Really it was my fault!!! My wife was also surprised. Sabi nya ang lakas naman nya (referring to the manager that backed-up my friend).

let it go ser jim... baka maka apekto pa yan sa work mo. i'm pretty sure marami rin ganyan not only in your company. ;)

ganyan talaga ang buhay, especially if you've been at your company for a few years. the new grads that i recruit today make more money than i made when i started for the company. di ko na lang iniisip maiinis lang ako.

there's always market adjustments year over year, and sometimes kung gipit yung kumpanya (or they were really really impressed by your friend in the interview process) they will give the candidate a better offer hoping that it's something she can't refuse - this is something we try not to do because it's a bad precedent and if other people find out they will become disgruntled and demoralized.

disgruntled and demoralized, you hit the nail right on the head brother.

I also feel that way in my work, the new ones who are coming in are having a bigger pay than me, when skills wise they really need improvement. I hope that the stupid managers base the compensation on the skills level not on some dumb **** experience.

sir jim, anong nature ng jobmo? technical/engineering/IT ba?

baka mas ma-PR lang ung girl...we'd all like to believe that we be judged objectively, but the truth is PR has a lot to do with it. Di ko naman sinasabi that she's using politics/palakasan per se; she might naturally be more of a people person, kaya mas naaalala ng management.

don't think too much about it though, baka maging masyado kang preoccupied with that e apektado pa ung work mo.

    imho la ng po ;)

Yan yung gumugulo sa akin. Sana nga ganyan pero hindi eh.

Sir Badkuk IT-related po work ko. Saka kung PR lang ang pagu-usapan, I know mas ma-PR ako kesa sa friend ko besides sa line of work namin we don't need much of the PR. We heavily rely on our technical skills and knowledge to resolve problems that arises and in this case lamang ako sa friend ko. I just hope and pray that someday management will see this.

I'm no longer thinking of the higher pay that my friend has. What worries me now is how management rates people in the company. Baka masayang lang ang efforts ko dito tsk tsk tsk

pag nasa company ka na for a long time, me tendency na ma taken ka for granted. believe me, i know B). it's the easiest thing anyone can do. ang sa akin lang, just do honest work, if only para masabi mo lang na it's not your (quality of) work that's holding you down.

so long as you think the job is worth it, just keep on truckin'. if not....alam mo na.

I think the best thing for you is to map out your career path in the company you work for. Find out, informally, how you are able to advance to a higher position, get an increase etc. Most companies give bonuses or raises based on performance.

If your company has regular employee performance evaluations, then you can try and shoot for a really stellar record and impress your immediate superior. If they don't have this, try and discuss with your superior on the ways you can get more responsibility. This will make a good impression and you may get considered for a higher position due to your initiative at work. Who knows? You may just go further than the person who started with you in the company.

i'd feel like crap .. but that would be the initial reaction of anyone .. so it's ok if you feel like crap .. just don't dwell on it too much .. hopefully your company follows a performance based rewards system .. so you can follow Altis6453s advice ..

Madaling solution yan pre update mo resume mo ipost mo agad. Ang daming tatawag saiyo and you learned already your mistake pagdating sa compesation negotiation. Always ask to the maximun pag final interview na ganun ang gagawin tanung mo kaagad kung magkano maximun pay ganun ginagawa ko. Beside you have still a job kung hindi nila ibibigay.

hanap ka ng prospective company na pwedeng lipatan to see if you can get a better package from them. from there you can gauge your market value, then if they offer you a higher salary, you can inform your current employer about it. if they would like to keep you, then maybe they can adjust your compensation. if not, then you can take the new job.

not that easy to switch jobs mga pre. syempre madami kang nainvest na seniority, benefits, relationships at track record sa current company mo, and sometimes certain benefits/perks only vest after a number of years.

when you switch jobs, start from zero ka ulit. also, di ko alam kung anong edad ni pareng jim, but if you're older mas mahirap lumipat because companies tend to look for younger employees who they can train from scratch and also pay much less...

im speaking from experience, being in IT also. the IT job market has always been open & volatile. i just stay a with a company to gain experience, use it to upgrade my qualifications for my next job. so far my compensations has improved each time, & so as my position within the organization. companies take advantage of their employee's expertise, why not do it the other way around? after all, they wont care about your welfare as much as they would about their income.

maybe if pareng jim has the expertise & confidence to gain employment with another company (with better package & position), why not give it a shot? if the job market isnt in his favor at the moment, he can stay a put, then who knows if a better opportunity later comes around?

that's one of the reasons why companies forbid employees from comparing pay.

sir nitrox, right ka dyan! you can find another job which is more better package.minsan nakakabuti ang paghanap ng iba at minsan rin eh nakakasama.like what happen to me.sa p'nas lima na kompanya na ang pinag trabahuhan ko,ngayon d2 sa middle east lima narin-which is not small company they are all big, presently iam here in national oil/gas refinenary of QATAR,na kung diko hinanap eh di ako mapupunta at makaka-hanap nang magandang suweldo at benefit.ngayon masama rin ang palipat-lipat which also affected your profession, kasi may mga employeer na uusisahin ang history ng trabaho mo at siguradong itatanong agad sayo ng employeer kung bakit ka umalis o' nag-resign? kapag nagkamali ka ng sagot at dimo na-impress ang interviewer o'emplyeer eh malamang i-reject ka.on other hand, mahirap kasing mag-trabaho kapag may kinikim-kim kang sama ng loob mo.lalaot na't for those years na connected ka sa company eh masyado kang downgrade at nag trabaho ka naman ng mahusay, natural lang ang sumama ang loob mo.sa akin timbangin mo ang situation, kung kaya mong mag-tiis wag kang umalis, ngayon kung mabigat sa kalooban mo eh di go ahead-siguro naman di kalibre ka naman na IT at dika mababakante! whatever your decision.i wish you to find and settle this matter and good luck pal...

when a company focuses more on "who" the applicant knows rather that on "what" he or she knows, then it's not a good company and you better get out of there

How would you feel????
